Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Technical Editor and Publication Specialist is responsible to produce, distribute, and maintain regulated manuals, documents, and information for flight crews, Dispatchers, and Management staff at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role provides support cross divisionally for technical publications and communications via multiple electronic distribution sources. Scope & Complexity This role reports to and works under the direction of the Manager, Technical Publications, and uses relevant knowledge, know-how, and skills to edit, fact-check and collaborate with technical professionals to produce technical manuals with a high degree of adherence to applicable regulations and operational safety. Key Duties - Performs structured and unstructured authoring to draft, edit, and format content and graphics ensuring information is presented accurately for publishing, including substantive editing to enhance clarity and standardization. - Reviews and converts content/graphics from various sources into appropriate software creating technical manuals, documents, and bulletins in various delivery methods for distribution to Web and mobile device interfaces, managed servers, applications, Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and aircraft flight deck while adhering to applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)s, Department of Defense (DoD) standards, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Laws and Regulations, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regulations, Air Transport Association (ATA) Specifications. - Provides input and collaborates with subject matter experts for project requirements and work flows. - Coordinates with print vendor to establish timelines and assembly of printed manuals for shipping to meet aircraft distribution schedules. - Replaces manuals and equipment, for pilot use, on aircraft Flight Deck includes auditing and maintaining inventory. - Updates electronic, master and historical files, ensures information is archived per company standards. - Maintains inventory and orders technical documents and charts for pilot bases and airport stations. - Provides input on mobile device applications with regards to appropriate formatting/layout of documents and technical support to end users for document display. - Updates department System Operating Procedures. - Other duties as assigned. Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required - Bachelor's degree, or 2 years of experience in technical publication publishing or editing experience. Good driving record and ability to obtain SIDA badge. - Demonstrated experience in format, modifying and proofing complex technical manuals. - Detail oriented and organized, with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team to produce accurate and timely results for a deadline-driven environment. - Strong communication and comprehension skills with ability to grasp processes and evaluate complex issues. - Self-motivation and decision-making skills with ability to follow-through to successfully complete projects within the defined schedules. - Proficiency with MS Office applications. - High school diploma or equivalent. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - Associates degree or higher. - Proficiency with Adobe Suite (Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Dreamweaver), Adobe Framemaker, Arbortext, and/or publishing applications. - Ability to edit graphic illustrations. - Ability to learn complex processes, systems, applications, and software to recommend appropriate changes and perform troubleshooting - Experience with html/xml, style sheets, and/or web design - Familiarity with structured authoring or content management systems - Competency in creating electronic documents for mobile publishing related software, web interfaces, and applications. - Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate issues and identify solutions for process improvements.
