Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Manager, Compute and Cloud Platforms leads a team responsible for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air's enterprise server, storage and application delivery platforms. In addition, this role will be responsible for executing Alaska's Cloud strategy which includes architectural designs and best practices, defining cloud standards and implementing governance controls. This role manages resource management, vendor management, inventory / asset management, as well as operational goals and objectives. As a people leader, this role must also be able to promote cross-departmental collaboration and take lead in driving process and systems improvements, with a focus on operational stability and cloud adoption. Scope & Complexity This leadership role manages Compute and Cloud Platforms for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. Key Duties - Leads a technical team of on and off shore resources that are responsible for the integrity, availability, and disaster recovery of critical infrastructure through automation, process improvement, monitoring, and metrics-driven methodologies. - Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management. - Shapes culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors. Communicates company, industry, and department news to staff and recognizes and rewards their successes, small and large. - Manages all critical platforms to meet or exceed critical systems disaster recovery objectives. - Collaborates with other IT teams to improve systems support, monitoring, and administration. - Creates cloud governance practices, policies and cost controls. Collaborates with subscription owners to ensure compliance and develop self service capabilities to streamline infrastructure workflows. - Manages vendor relationships ensuring highest quality and reasonable costs. - Develops robust capacity planning and life cycle management processes. - Writes business cases and divisional attachments. Job-Specific Skills, Experience & Education Required - A minimum of 5 years of IT experience. - A minimum of 2 years of experience leading technical teams. - A Bachelor's degree, preferably with a focus in computer science, engineering, information systems, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree - Technical vision and understanding of IaaS/PaaS/SaaS including physical and virtual data centers, backbone and data center networks, server hardware, operating systems (Windows and Linux), DNS, authentication, storage, load balancing, databases, virtualization, security, and related technologies. - Experience designing and implementing enterprise systems utilizing platforms such as Windows server, Linux, VMWare, public cloud architectures, Citrix etc. - Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills. - Proven team building, coaching and mentoring skills. - Ability to participate in an On-Call rotation and lead severity 1 outage calls as a major incident manager Preferred - Experience utilizing scripting and/or programming languages i.e. PowerShell, Phython, Ruby, etc. - Experience leveraging new technologies to improve process, reduce support, and/or lower costs. - In-depth knowledge of Server services (e.g., NFS, authentication protocols, DHCP/DNS, routing, secure communications). - Experience managing and governing public cloud resources, specifically Microsoft Azure. - Experience leading teams to create automation workflows and self-service capabilities to increase velocity and remove infrastructure friction - Manages and has the capability to lead medium and large-scale projects - Knowledge of backup technologies and policy management. - Knowledge of networking concepts (advanced networking/switching/routing) - Strong team management and technical leadership abilities. - Proven ability to work effectively in stressful work environments. - Inspirational and motivated leader that promotes the Alaska values - Experience with the latest compute, storage, automation, and network tools - Demonstrated success in a multi-vendor environment - Proven ability to lead teams through process improvement and change. - 5 years of airline experience. - Experience leading high severity IT systems incident response.
