What you'll do

  • Influence the direction of Cargo through data analysis, reports, process improvement, and competitive analysis
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain tools that can improve decision-making processes and enhance self-service analytics. This will include working with different Cargo areas to understand and document business requirements
  • Create robust data pulls that can be automated and scheduled depending on the business need and deploy MVP business apps that can support self-service
  • Work with IATA and other third-parties or trade associations in the advancement and implementation of industry standards and required industry data feeds 
  • Collaborate with business areas to identify data gaps and possible solutions. Participate in the design and implementation of new datasets as well as the maintenance of the existing ones
  • Incorporate AA’s Azure platform into specific and results-oriented business applications that give AA Cargo an industry advantage and improve profitability
  • Design and present on data mining and big data-oriented solutions for current business needs, analyzing both internal and external options and pursuing those with the most potential 
  • Identify and assess opportunities to leverage new information technologies, collaborate with external vendors to explore alternatives, estimate viability and ROI and create action plans for implementation
  • Promote initiatives within the organization that increase transparency and visibility of existing reports and data sources. Actively participate in initiatives to trace and catalog our data structure and digital assets 
  • Actively participate in documentation efforts to organize and maintain updated data definitions and report specifications within the organization 
  • Production support, including maintenance to existing reports, as well as troubleshooting and resolving issues

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • BS, MS, or MBA in Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Strong experience in SQL
  • Prior experience using Python, R, or SAS
  • Strong experience in development in Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, or equivalent visualization software
  • Experience using tools for data extraction, analysis, and reporting 
  • Resourceful, creative thinker; proactive in suggesting reporting improvements and ideas
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing projects across departments
  • Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to work effectively in a variety of situations
  • Possess excellent communication skills to be able to interact with all levels of AA Cargo leadership, including the President of AA Cargo

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • RDBMS programming experience, SQL, Stored Procedures, and scripts
  • Fluency in Alteryx
  • Strong experience in Azure and Databricks 
  • 2+ years in business intelligence reporting and analytics
  • 3+ years of Information Technology experience
  • Experience with Cognos, including Report Studio, Cognos Workspace and Active Reports, as well as design and construct of OLAP cubes 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel 
  • Working knowledge of Teradata, SQL Server, SAS, and Oracle, as well as familiarity with flat files, Excel, and other unstructured data sources
  • Practical experience in data extraction, cleansing, analysis, and visualization
  • Work collaboratively with report and ETL developers, DBA, and subject matter experts
  • Proven ability to be self-directed and task-oriented as well as being able to work closely with other team members and cooperate to achieve common goals
  • Ability to prioritize and successfully engage in multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must have strong critical thinking and analytical skills as well as solid interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques, forecasting and/or data science, and experience in applying predictive analytics to real-world problems 
  • Familiarity with the airline/travel industry
  • Flexible and capable of working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
