Our Technical Operations Co-Ops report as entry level employees to a department focused on Engineering, Technology or Aviation Management and typically teamed with a mentor for development and training. The position has a 6-7 month commitment (January-August or June-December) and will be located at one of our Technical Operations facilities in Tulsa, OK, Charlotte, NC, or Fort Worth, TX.
What you'll do
Opportunities exist in the following areas:
Data Visualization – this department leads in development of new data mining methods, analytics and tools. Many assignments will involve the use of statistical simulation tools (R, Alteryx), programming languages such as Python, VBA, Java and C#, and data visualization tools such as Tableau. Typical responsibilities in this department include; 1. Developing and maintaining advanced analytic models and processes to collect, compile, and analyze operational data. 2. Assisting in ways to automate the root cause determination of system/component failures and provide the results to the appropriate Technical Operations departments. 3. Using advance coding/programing develops new insights to evaluate the reliability performance of overall component populations by identifying and monitoring premature, chronic or rogue component removals/rates for adverse trends. 4. Developing and maintaining various reports, dashboards, and data visualizations for fleet team/senior management fleet brief meetings.
Business Technology – this department supports the organization’s technology needs in two primary areas of focus: Business Process Management Solutions and Data Management, Governance, Analysis and Visualization. The team partners with departments across TEQ and Tech Ops and with IT to develop solutions to improve the efficiency and automation of processes and to build systems to better trust and leverage data. Some of the technologies and platforms on which the team develops and supports solutions include SharePoint, K2, Lotus Notes, Collibra, Teradata, Tableau, and Alteryx. Roles on the team include Solution Development, Solutions and Data Architecture, Solution Support, Business Analysis, Project Management, Quality Assurance, and Data Analysis and Modeling. Some of the skills specific to development and data roles include .Net, javascript, Angular, K2 / SharePoint / Lotus Notes development, database technologies, and SQL.
Inflight Technology - this group is responsible for software development and Network Infrastructure in support of Inflight Entertainment (IFE) and Connectivity (C) products used in the Passenger Cabin, including seatback IFE systems, Wi-Fi, and IP Television. Focus is on project management and delivery, system definition and requirements, implementation, testing, performance analysis, steady-state and reporting for IFEC products and operational applications used by the Crew that use connectivity services. Team members work closely together with American’s IFEC core team stakeholders, including Marketing, Flight Service, Procurement and IFEC Engineering. During the day-to-day activities, team members use tools such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, SharePoint and Tableau to develop templates and dashboards with data extracted from internal data repositories and/or supplier systems. They analyze the data to identify and report system performance and associated trends. Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, SQL, HTML, Java Script and VB are also used to extract and process the data.

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate Engineering degree program. Engineering majors considered include: Aeronautical/Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Metallurgical and Civil Engineering.
- Successful completion of sophomore year or approximately 60 hours towards a Bachelor Degree is preferred.
- A minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5.
- Eligibility to work permanently in the United States.
- Availability for two work cycles (or at least 3 semesters) is preferred.
