Overview of the role: 

 

The Tendering Director is responsible for managing the bid process and submission from ITT (or earlier if desired) through to award consistent with policy and processes. Working across the business and with joint venture and supply chain partners, as appropriate, champion and deliver a winning bid through effective leadership, inspiration and support of the bid team. The Tendering Director shall ensure appropriate input from all internal and external stakeholders to achieve a tender submission and contract award that meets the requirements of the ITT and the AF Construction sanctioned authority.

 

What you will do:

  • To convert work winning opportunities into successful and profitable contracts
  • Ensure all new secured projects are cash positive
  • Ensure future pipeline, AF Construction best value for money and Win Themes
  • To create a bid strategy  and work with the bid team and other Work Winning resources to identify, capture and develop win themes
  • To develop a bid programme and having identified necessary resources, secure support from Work Winning and Operational leaders
  • To ensure that submission documents are complete and fully responsive to formal and informal questions posed in the customers bid documentation.
  • To determine the likely response of competitors and to seek to positively differentiate the AF Construction offering.
  • To ensure that a the bid is submitted on time
  • To co-ordinate the necessary and appropriate management reviews during the bid process.
  • To monitor bid costs and deliver the bid within the agreed budget

OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • For Business Group or professional function:
  • Assists in the development of Business Plan to support strategic direction and vision with planning horizons between 3-5 years
  • Sets business or functional goals and objectives
  • Has working parameters set by the Managing Director
  • Establishes and sustains key client and sector relationships to support the Business Plan
  • Determines priorities and makes decisions of business unit impact (company-wide for professional functions)
  • Contribute/delivers to Business Group strategy (typically as part of SMT for Business Group)

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

For Business Group or professional function:

  • Accountable for financial performance and risk management
  • Accountable for adherence to Corporate Governance standards
  • Sets budgets and ensures compliance
  • Formulates annual business and operational budgets
  • Responsible for overall commercial decision-making

For Business Group or professional function:

  • Is responsible for talent management
  • Develops and implements plan to support people strategy
  • Ensures compliance with reward strategy and HR policy and procedures

  • Ensure team is robust and has the necessary skillsets and capabilities to support the function objectives

 

Required Skills to be successful

 

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Possesses strong business and sector acumen and professional standing 
  • Aware of the trends in the market-place and seeks to deepen knowledge of industry issues and drivers
  • Member of a Professional Body progressing to Chartered Status plus a minimum Intermediate Level qualification
  • Understands AFC’s internal governance process surrounding bidding and risk management
  • Ability to negotiate effectively and to make commercially appropriate decisions
  • Understands the procurement process
  • Ability to read and align with customer needs and requirements
  • Excellent written and oral communication & presentational skills
  • Ability to identify, crystallize and communicate a clear bid strategy – including Client critical success factors, Win Themes and USP’s / Differentiators
  • Highly organized, able to anticipate, manage and prioritize resources to suit programme and budget
  • Ability to adapt, be flexible, be creative, proactive and innovative
  • Ability to harness all potential available assets to the mutual advantage of customer and AFC
  • Possesses strong knowledge of Middle East & North African business and cultural practices

 

What equips you for the role

 Minimum Experience:

  • At least 15 years’ experience in a project, work winning, or a project delivery functional role is necessary.
  • Significant track record of success in managing a business contract, Business Unit or region and/or providing support to a professional function
  • Experience across MENA region Dubai, Abu Dhabi, KSA, Egypt,
