About The Job

 

This role is part of a dynamic and collaborative team that helps shape the company's actions, along with its engagement with internal and external stakeholders, at American’s largest hub, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

 

The Specialist of DFW Hub Communications creates and maintains relationships between team members and American leadership, influences the evolving corporate culture, advances the business strategy – both internally and externally – and works closely with members of the media. This position will report into the Global Engagement team, but will have strong ties to all senior leaders who run our largest hub at DFW. Be prepared to write executive communications, which calls for working directly with the leadership team.

 

The right person for this job must be able to work in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines, including deadlines for real-time issues management. This individual must be able to tailor communications to different audiences in the ways that matter most to our team members, customers, media and the general public.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Create internal communications materials and support corporate communications initiatives, including:
    • Execute cmmunications plans that further the company’s vision
    • Supprt media relations programs, including handling media at on-site events
    • Find, create and share authentic, cmpelling stories of team members and operational excellence for use across internal, external and social media platforms
    • Help supprt and publicize community relations communications programs, with the guidance of the community relations team at headquarters
    • Create hub team member newsletter
    • Draft internal message pints for team member meetings, program rollouts and senior management that help further companywide as well as more locally targeted programs
    • Help publicize ther hub and corporate events, including benefits/HR programs, operations events, safety fairs, etc.
  • Develops and executes communications strategies around highly volatile and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines. This includes working on real-time operational issues with American Airlines leadership.
  • Assists with rapid response communications (i.e. issues resolution) throughout the airline, including creating and developing internal and external communication plans.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, 24/7 environment to help lead these efforts

 

cont. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

Coordinate employee events as requested.  Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Create and manage cross-functional team member engagement at DFW
  • Plan, coordinate, publicize and recap hub engagement meetings and events, including town halls, team member events, etc.
  • Create presentations for team member engagement meetings and events

Other duties may include:

  • Attend and participate in periodic communications team meetings at American’s other hubs nationwide
  • Regular participation in meetings and events at American’s headquarters building – just minutes from DFW
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 3-4 years relevant work experience in communications, team member engagement or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience / training
  • Strong analytical skills, quantitative ability, solution and detail-oriented
  • High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills and experience in strategic communications planning
  • Strong team player with ability to work successfully at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to lead tasks, manage processes, analyze and problem-solve, working independently as well as in a group
  • Thrives in a fast-paced atmosphere where you work under pressure and can meet critical deadlines
  • Must have excellent time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines effectively, efficiently and independently
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to research issues to determine root cause

cont. Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office software (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Prior media relations experience a plus
  • Ability to travel
  • Must fulfill FAA criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA).
  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority, TSA and CBP security badges.
