About The Job
Responsible for the management and development of the American Airlines Workers’ Compensation program. In addition to Workers’ Compensation claims and jurisdictional expertise, this position requires critical thinking and problem solving skills to make decisions based on risk analysis, company goals, work force initiatives and claim related issues.
This position is also highly collaborative with the ability to work with cross functional business partners to resolve problems and implement solutions. The candidate must have excellent team building skills with the ability to collaborate and build trust with all levels of leadership, business partners and front line team members. This leader must engage the Workers’ Compensation team toward continuous improvement.
Specifically, you’ll do the following:
- Lead, inspire, and manage the Workers’ Compensation team; direct report includes two Regional Claims Managers and one data analyst
- Direct WC Third Party Administration (TPA) and vendors from a strategic level. Monitor performance, ensure commitments of contract and establish expectations and metrics
- Strategize on workers compensation annual insurance renewal process, collateral and risk reduction to include gathering payroll for renewal and audits, state reporting and premium payments
- Provide training and guidance to all departments on best practices for managing Workers Compensation process to include adherence to state laws and union contracts and return to work program
- Design and implement all Workers’ Compensation policies and programs
- Recognizes areas for improvement of processes and collaborate across department boundaries to implement solutions
- Drive Workers’ Compensation related projects and tasks from a technical claims and risk perspective
- Coordinate regular stewardship reviews and ensure accountability of business partners to ensure company goals and initiatives are met
- Lead Workers Compensation data integration with TPAs, data partners and vendors
- Participate in budget preparations and financial compliance activities

- Provides continuous improvement of existing reports/tools
- Collaborate with the ADA team to execute a comprehensive RTW program to include transitional duty and implement goals and objectives of the program
- Drive collaboration with Government Affairs for legislative initiatives
- Performs duties as requested by Managing Director
- Assigned responsibilities may vary based upon department growth and evolving operation
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Five years or more Workers Compensation claims experience
- Four year degree
- Minimum of 3 years prior leadership
- Strong verbal, presentation and written communication skills
- Proficient information technology skills
- Ability to make immediate, knowledgeable decisions
- Ability to execute multiple projects concurrently and prioritize opportunities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with others
