Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Attorney I - Litigation works as part of the in-house legal team in a shared services environment - employed by Alaska Airlines, Inc. and provides legal services for Alaska Airlines, Inc., Horizon Air Industries, Inc., and Alaska Air Group, Inc. Scope & Complexity The Attorney I - Litigation is an individual contributor who will help support the management of pre-litigation strategy, litigation and other legal disputes involving Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. This position will also oversee the records management and retention functions for the companies. Key Duties - Manages uninsured litigation and pre-litigation matters in a variety of cases involving the airlines and works with paralegals and outside counsel handling the same. - With limited direction from senior attorneys, take initiative to develop solutions on complex litigation matters involving commercial and labor and employment disputes, including class actions and other collective actions. - Drafts, reviews, and edits pleadings and discovery requests in litigation and arbitration matters. - May be called upon to draft position statements in EEOC and state employment agency matters, take or defend depositions, to represent the companies at arbitration hearings, and/or appear in court. - Supports records management and retention functions for the companies. - Works with paralegals to issue litigation holds, to respond to discovery requests, and to handle other litigation-related tasks. - Advises and counsels on FOIA and Public Records Act matters. - Advises and counsels on responses to commercial and law enforcement subpoenas directed to the companies. - Advises and counsels business partners in consumer and third-party fraud investigations and passenger disputes. - Supports senior attorneys in providing legal advice and counseling during times of potential internal or public relations crises. - Makes recommendations to senior attorneys on developing scalable legal solutions to manage cost and reduce legal risk for the companies. Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills Required - Licensed attorney in good standing, preferably licensed in Washington State. - A minimum of 3 years of government, in-house, and/or law firm litigation experience. - thorough familiarity with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and litigation procedure and local rules in at least one state court. - Specialized knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: business and commercial disputes, labor and employment law, aviation-related litigation, and intellectual property law. - Must understand and know how to apply rules of privilege in a corporate setting. - Ability to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, highly detailed environment where flexibility is key. - Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with colleagues as needed regarding issues outside of primary practice area - Juris Doctor degree from leading law school, with strong personal academic credentials. - Demonstrate high standards for professional integrity. Preferred - Experience litigating labor and employment law matters, particularly in California state and federal courts. - Experience working with clients in the aviation industry or other highly regulated, technical or mechanical industries. - Experience with records management and retention policies and programs. - Trial and/or arbitration experience. - Preference will be given to candidates who are local to the Seattle metropolitan area or who have demonstrated geographic ties to the region.
