Description

 

Help with drafting and implementing occupational health and safety policy; diagnose the institution’s Occupational Health and situation; identify control variables for diseases, accidents, quality of life and environment. Give occupational health and safety courses; take part in negotiations. Help adopt new working techniques and processes; investigate and analyze work accidents; recommend prevention and control measures. Comply with government law and company rules.

 

Activities, include but not limited to:

 

  • To inform about risks existing in the work environment, and to advice on measures of elimination or neutralization;
  • To analyze work methods and processes and identify the risk factors for occupational accidents, professional and occupational diseases, and the presence of harmful environmental agents, and submit proposals for their elimination or control;
  • Execute occupational health and safety procedures and evaluate the results achieved;
  • Execute programs for the prevention of occupational accidents and professional and occupational diseases in the workplace, with the participation of the workers, monitoring and assessing the results and suggesting their continuous adaptation, establishing the procedures to be followed;
  • Arrange debates, conferences, campaigns, seminars, lectures, meetings, CIPA and training courses and use other teaching and educational resources to disseminate occupational health and safety norms and technical matters, with a view to avoiding occupational accidents and professional and occupational diseases.  
  • Execute safety norms for construction and application, with a view to the observance of occupational health and safety measures, for third parties as well as workers;
  • To forward to the appropriate sectors and areas the norms, regulations, documentation, statistical data, results of analyses and assessments, technical support, educational and other dissemination materials for the information and self-development of workers;
  • To be in compliance with company and government law regarding Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Indicate, request and inspect protective equipment against fire, audiovisual and didactic resources and other material considered indispensable, under the law, that meet the recommended technical specifications, assessing their performance;
  • Cooperate with environmental activities, giving guidance on the treatment and disposal of industrial waste, encouraging workers and making them aware of its importance for life;
  • Advising outsourced companies on occupational health and safety procedures provided for in the legislation or in service agreements;
  • To carry out occupational health and safety activities using scientific methods and techniques, observing legal and institutional requirements, with a view to eliminating, controlling or permanently reducing the risk of occupational accidents and improving environmental conditions, to preserve the physical and mental integrity of the workers;
  • To survey and study statistic data for occupational accidents and professional and occupational diseases, and calculate their frequency and seriousness, in order to take preventive action and introduce norms, regulations and other technical devices permitting collective and individual protection;
  • To talk to and cooperate with human resources/management, giving them the results of technical surveys on the risks of areas and activities, to enable them to adopt staff protection measures;
  • To inform the workers and the employer about insalubrious, dangerous and onerous activities in the company, their specific risks, and measures and alternatives for eliminating them or neutralizing them;
  • To assess environmental working conditions and issue a technical opinion to assist with planning and organizing work for the workers’ safety;
  • To talk to and cooperate with the bodies and entities involved in preventing occupational accidents and professional and occupational diseases;

 

 

Requirements           

                  

 

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, according to operational needs. Willing to work weekends and shifts.
  • Proactive team player.
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure, with good judgement and decision making.
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand English and native language.
  • Technical course in occupational safety for an Occupational safety/heath technician
  • High school diploma.
