Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Senior Engineer makes decisions with defined scope related to repairs on aircraft using specifications from manufacturer(s), the company, and regulations. This Senior Engineer identifies and assists on change to issues related to task cards, manuals, and engineering directives used by mechanics during the repair of the aircraft. Scope & Complexity - This individual contributor role supports engineering activities for Alaska Airlines (AS). This is a leadership role for ongoing projects to maintain the fleet, including the cabin investment project, split scimitar winglets, and other component designs that impact the reliability of components and reduction of block turn backs. Key Duties - Utilizes all available information (e.g., ASA operational data, OEM engineering data, other operators' shared information, etc.) to continually improve the safe and efficient operation of the installed Powerplant. - Manages and maintains all original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommendations (e.g., SBs, SLs, etc.) for priority incorporation into the fleet. - Authors engineering control (EC) documents (e.g., engineering orders, engineering authorizations, fleet campaigns, etc.) to direct the required incorporation of modifications, improvements, and disposition of line troubleshooting and shop requests. - Leads, as required, cross-divisional team(s) composed of Records, Planning, Line Maintenance, Engine Build Up shop, QC, Flight Ops, Technical Pubs, etc. to ensure released EC documents are implemented efficiently. - Reviews and edits the engine build specification, delineating the required maintenance to be accomplished at designated vendor shop overhaul facilities. - Reviews all applicable Federal Air Regulations (FARs) and Airworthiness Directives (AD), and promptly generates documentation for 100% compliance. - Provides Maintenance Control and Engineering Technical Services personnel with troubleshooting assistance for resolution of chronic aircraft (Powerplant) issues resulting in a prompt return to service. - Authors AS-specific engineering data for inclusion into the required ICAs (manuals) for configuration control and required maintenance actions. - Presents reliability data reviews, including root cause determination and proposed maintenance program improvements. - On a rotating basis, provides 24/7 cell phone coverage for Powerplant-related line issues. - Fully engages and participates in OEM technical conferences (and WTT sessions) to ensure the most recent engineering data is utilized in managing AS's fleet. - Performs other duties as assigned. Job-Specific Skills & Education Required - A minimum of 10 years of Powerplant engineering (e.g., airline, shop, OEM) with detailed on-wing operational experience. - A Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in engineering (preferably aerospace or mechanical), or a related discipline. - In-depth understanding of the Powerplant interface with the aircraft. - Knowledge of FAA regulations and oversight functions (for both aircraft and engine operating airworthiness certificates). - Excellent communication skills: verbal (both informal working teams and formal executive presentations), and in clear, concisely written documents - Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with self-directed decision making confidence and limited guidance in a fast-paced environment. - Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). - High school diploma or equivalent is required. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - 10 years of airline and/or manufacturer Powerplant engineering experience (preference: CFM56 engine). - Understanding of gas turbine fundamental operating principles (e.g., aero, thermal, mechanical, etc.).
