Group Financial Controller at SWVL – UAE

Job Description:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Takes the lead on relevant initiatives proposed by the CEO and/or VP of Finance and supports in implementing new projects or process improvements across the organization
  • Identifies and recommends necessary changes in accounting system to meet growing business needs
  • Actively supports other department managers with accounting related matters and manages new projects
  • Seeks to continuously improve the way Swvl performs its month-end closing function
  • Maintain relationships with third parties including auditors and tax authorities

ERP implementation and optimization

  • Works closely with the implementation consultant and Swvl’s tech team to implement ERP system across accounting and operations
  • Ensures that chart of accounts is in line with accounting standards, group standards and legal requirements

Internal control

  • Implements process improvements to enhance internal audit across the business
  • Runs quarterly internal audit checks and department self-evaluation studies

Taxation: Transfer pricing, VAT and Income tax

  • Takes the lead on all transfer pricing, VAT and income tax submissions, studies and proposals across multiple countries
  • Oversees the accounting team’s VAT and other applicable tax reconciliations, filing and documentation and ensures tax submissions and calculations are prepared accurately
  • Works closely with consultants to optimize and control taxation issues

Accounting for operating entities

  • Responsible for local GAAP and Group standards of bookkeeping of small entities
  • Prepare financial statements according to IFRS

Job Requirements:

         Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance
  • Certified ACCA / ACA / CA / CPA

       Relevant Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience including leading an accounting team or controllership

Technical Knowledge/ Skills/ Training required:

  • Experience in accounting consolidations of multi-country operations
  • Being able to work and make decisions under tight deadlines and ambiguity
  • Strong track record of process and business project improvements
  • Strong leadership and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge and practice of IRFS
  • ERP integration / implemented experience strong plus
