About the Position:
The purpose of the role is to lead the corporate-wide, cross-functional data science efforts at Al Futtaim Group (AFG) to leverage existing information assets for ROI maximization as well as enhance revenue generation and operation efficiency. Reporting to the Director of Data Analytics, this role will be responsible for creating the data science and BI capability at AFG working with key business owners to envision and ultimately execute descriptive, predictive and optimization analytics models.
Specifically, your key responsibilities are as follows:
- Deliver business value by proposing and delivering innovative and complex advanced analytic models, utilizing a blend of contemporary and traditional data mining techniques, applied to both structured and unstructured data sets.
- Drive the strategy and deliver descriptive and diagnostic analytics (reporting, dashboards, etc.) to support business performance monitoring and data-driven decision making
- Build the data science and BI team ensuring effective training and competency development, determining modern approaches, best practices and work standards (including those supporting agile analytics solution development)
- Define and implement DataOps standards and practices to govern data pipeline and analytics solution development. In addition, support the design and implementation of AFG platform ad information architecture ensuring analytics solutions are in line with defined target state
- Support the implementation of self-service analytics through development of an analytics platform, toolset and standards that enable business users
- Research and stay up to date on latest approaches and technologies in the market ensuring that, when relevant, these are appropriately leveraged within Data and Analytics function.
About You:
Ideally, we are looking for the following job-specific skills:
- 10+ years of working experience in data science, with at least 5 years as a senior data scientist
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or any other related quantitative field.
- Proven record of delivering business impact through analytics solutions
- Experience with probability and statistics inclusive of machine learning, optimization and experimental design
- Deep understanding of the architecture, tools and models required for both descriptive and advanced analytics solutions
- Previously managed high-performing data scientist and engineering teams to deliver analytics solutions
- Experience within automotive, retail, real-estate and/or finance industries is preferred
- Highly proficient and experienced in scripting languages and have rapid prototyping skills, that is, fluency in SQL, Python, R, etc. among others. Experience on the Azure platform is desirable.
- Strong leadership skills to build, mentor and lead a team of junior data scientists and BI developers
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives
- Experience in supporting the change management and adoption efforts needed to ensure value creation from analytics
