• ​This job is a member of the Information Technology Team within the Information Technology Division.

• Responsible for leveraging cutting edge technology to solve business problems at American Airlines by participating in all phases of the development process from inception through transition, advocating the agile process and test-driven development, using Big Data and Data Warehousing tools to analyze, model, design and construct.

What you'll do

• With guidance of senior developers, creates new and maintains current applications, including, but not limited to, bug fixes, feature enhancements, and performance tuning in the Corporate Security, Emergency Planning & Response, Environmental and Safety IT portfolios
• Researches and implements new technology to enhance current processes, security, and performance
• Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions
• Works with a team to create detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates, and ensures tasks/projects are completed on time and within scope
• Works with production operations department to ensure deployments roll out smoothly and customer groups receive appropriate support
• Documents validation of design decisions
• Supports the enforcement of policy and procedural changes within the development group
• Supports the development of coding standards and adhere to best practices and security guidelines set forth by the development team
• Participates in code reviews
• Be a part of a DevOps team that completely owns and supports the application 24/7

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
• 2 years total development experience
• 1 year web application or services experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• 2+ years of total development experience
• Airline Industry experience
• Experience with DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration, and Continuous Deployment
• Experience with Agile project management methodology
• Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
• Possess a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge
• Ability to analyze complex problems and implement solutions and/or workarounds

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

• Experience working as a core team member on a project team. For example – part of a course requirement, internship, hackathon etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) or equivalent
• Experience in any of the following tools/platforms preferred:
  • Big Data platform: Hadoop, HDFS, Solr
  • Data Ingestion/Wrangling: Kafka, Trifacta, Alteryx, Nifi, Big Integrate
  • Scripting: Python, Spark, Unix, SQL
  • Data Warehousing: DataStage, Informatica
  • Databases: Teradata, Cassandra, MongoDB, Oracle, SQL Server
  • CI/CD: GitHub, SubVersion, Jenkins, UrbanCode Deploy
  • AI/ML: R, DataIku
  • BI: Cognos, Tableau, PowerBI, Zoom Data
