This position is a member of the Customer Technology Senior leadership team within the Technology Division.  The role will lead the execution and evolution of the technology strategy and governance practice within Customer Technology.  Additionally, the role will oversee the system architecture and integration of all applications and products within Customer Technology, as well as integration with systems and solutions in other areas of IT, such as Airline Operations Technology, Enterprise Technology, and Corporate Technology.

What you'll do

  • Supports Delivery Transformation by providing clear architectural and strategic guardrails that empower teams to operate autonomously
  • Collaborates with the engineering community and technologists throughout the enterprise to define and drive technology strategy
  • Promotes Technical Excellence within Customer Technology by raising the visibility of engineering practices and driving the adoption of automation platforms that accelerate cloud migration.
  • Decomposes very complex systems into their essential functions
  • Drives action plans in all parts of the portfolio around Resiliency, Adaptability, and Interoperability
  • Coordinates architectural choices within the standards defined across American Airlines
  • Sponsors hack-a-thons and other incubator techniques to experiment with ideas that would change our ability to deliver faster or solve a business problem in a completely different way
  • Represents Customer Technology on the Technology Strategy and Governance Committee
  • Leads the SRE practice within Customer Technology
  • Mentors and upskills the technical talent across the team
  • Communicates and sells the technical vision for the portfolio

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology , Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 8 years of enterprise architecture experience, specifically mapping out integration strategies and practical standards across portfolios of assets

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Masters Degree Preferred

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Extensive experience collaborating with cross-functional architecture groups
  • Ability to drive action plans in resiliency, adaptability, and architectural coupling concepts such as API and other interface-driven techniques
  • Proficiency in understanding where to gain leverage on evolving our architectures and driving change in areas where we expect to need to evolve more frequently, rather than focusing on “what’s cool”
  • Proficiency in Agile and SDLC methodologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate with senior business and IT stakeholders and to sell a technical strategy and vision
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with, and consensus amongst, multiple stakeholders with varying points of view
