  • This job is part of the Strategic Planning and Analysis team within the Revenue Division.
  • We are currently hiring for our Fleet & Infrastructure Analysis and our Long Range Planning teams. The Fleet & Infrastructure Analysis team is responsible of working with other teams in the organization to secure the strategic assets that are required to support the long term needs of the network. On the fleet front, we work collaboratively across the Commercial, Finance and Ops organizations to secure the aircraft the network needs and ensure their seating configuration (LOPAs) are highly efficient and provide the appropriate cabin mix that best adapt to our network. On the Infrastructure front we partner with Corporate Real Estate (CRE), CRE finance, Alliances and other teams to secure long term airport infrastructure needs for our network (Gates, runway access, throughput, terminal connectivity, international capabilities, etc) and design and monitor strategies to protect it.

  • The Long Range Planning (LRP) team acts as a conduit to translate revenue and commercial initiatives into capacity and revenue guidance that informs planning about the airline’s future. This includes modeling capacity (at a network, entity, hub and market level), estimating demand for critical resources such as crew and gates, and forecasting revenue, between one month and one decade into the future. We collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders including network planning, revenue management, alliances, regional strategy, finance and crew planning to ensure the company aligns to fleet and network plans, long-lead infrastructure projects, airline partnerships and other strategic projects that are profit-maximizing and deliver value for American’s team members, customers and shareholders. Responsibilities range from forecasting revenue and capacity to analyzing and optimizing the needs and deployment of strategic assets such aircraft and terminal infrastructure, identifying optimal seating configurations (LOPAs) for our aircraft, analyzing partnerships with other carriers aimed at building our inorganic network, and from managing available-to-schedule aircraft counts to building the 5-Year network plan and schedule. 

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain tools that forecast American Airlines’ capacity and revenue plans up to five years in the future 
  • Generate ideas and evaluate various network, fleet, infrastructure and scheduling scenarios that seek to protect our existing assets and maximize the long-term profitability of American Airlines
  • Secure and optimize our portfolio of strategic assets including, but not limited to, infrastructure and aircraft that are required to support the long-term needs of the network
  • Lead discussions with stakeholders across the company that are focused on driving long term value to American Airlines while meeting various operational requirements 
  • Analyze the performance of existing partnerships, evaluate new partnerships and craft creative solutions that drive continuous improvement from American Airlines’ inorganic network
  • Utilize statistical analysis, predictive modeling or other analytical methods to analyze data and develop practical solutions to business problems
  • Present analyses, strategies and results to all levels of the organization

What you'll do cont.

  • Apply analytical modeling and data optimizing methods using advanced MS Excel to develop and interpret information that assists management with decision-making, policy formulation, growth evaluation and financial analyses
  • Perform validation of models to ensure adequacy, define data requirements, and gather and validate information, applying judgement and statistical tests
  • Develop performance measurements and analytical tools to improve profitability and planning / forecasting processes
  • Develop periodic reports on a wide range of strategic and tactical analyses / projects outlining key business drivers and explain variances against budget
  • Analyze data derived from various areas, such as booking activity, fleet analyses, market trends, ROI analyses, performance and budget analyses, profitability statistics, previous campaign results, site statistics, marketing efforts, revenue management, and pricing trends in order to devise strategies to increase revenue and profitability
  • Interact with other groups including Corporate Real Estate, Finance, Network Planning, Revenue Management, Sales, Marketing, various operational groups, Joint Business partners and Regional affiliates

  • Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience/training 
    • Minimum 2 years of related work experience, or Master’s degree in a related field 
  • Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
    • Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools including Excel, Tableau, SQL, and SAS 
    • Experience in airline Network Planning, Revenue Management, Commercial, or analytical field 
  • Skills, Licenses & Certifications
    • Eager to solve complex problems and puzzles in a constrained and dynamic environment 
    • Ability to leverage understanding of the airline business and commercial goals to draw insights, drive results, and create innovative solutions 
    • Adaptive to new ideas and business processes in an ever-changing marketplace 
    • Ability to perform in cross-functional groups with minimal supervision to drive outcomes which benefit the entire airline 
    • Skilled at sharing knowledge to develop the expertise of the team as a whole 
    • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
