  • ​Responsible for leading diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that support American’s goal of making culture a competitive advantage by creating a best-in-class workplace, specifically as it applies to diversity, equity and inclusiveness.

What you'll do

  • Designs initiatives on cultural competency, implicit bias, gender differences, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, sexual harassment, disability awareness and other topics designed to increase awareness and support for equitable and inclusive values.
  • Partners with the Training and Leadership Development teams to identify opportunities to incorporate inclusion, equity and diversity content into company-wide training programs, targeted development materials, onboarding content in order to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion.
  • Develops metrics for measuring the effectiveness of corporate diversity initiatives, workforce analysis and prepare quarterly reports for senior management on this data and initiatives.
  • Assesses barriers to diversity and inclusiveness and develop strategies focused on removing those barriers.
  • Reviews and analyzes trends to develop recommendations for strategies and initiatives with the goal of increasing diversity and inclusion.
  • Builds relationships with key business leaders, to develop a deeper understanding of the organization's workforce diversity, inclusiveness and retention opportunities.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to develop recruitment strategies that build attraction and retention of underrepresented candidates.
  • Provides leadership and support for the continued development of our Employee Business Resource Group and the Diversity Advisory Council.
  • Consults People Business Partner team and other business unit leadership to identify, customize and deliver inclusion solutions that meet the needs of the business teams.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR Management or Organizational Development or equivalent experience/training
  • 7+ years of experience in managing, planning, directing, executing inclusion, diversity and related initiatives

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • ​Master's degree in Business, HR Management, or Organizational Development

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • ​Knowledge in strategic problem solving, communication/presentation skills, critical thinking, team facilitation and ability to command diversity materials
  • Ability to drive culture change and effectively handle confidential and sensitive information is required
  • Knowledge in change management, team building, project management, training and service delivery
  • Advanced computer skills essential, and knowledge of new generation technology is preferred
  • Knowledge of, experience in, connection with the commercial airline industry preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 50% travel to deploy key initiatives and strategically engage strategic team members across system
