The Specialist/Senior Specialist, Team Member Relations is responsible for assisting leaders of people seeking guidance regarding specific team member matters. They coach and guide the business with team member concerns including the day to day performance coaching, provide guidance for draft/review of performance related documentation, guide leaders to investigate non-work environment matters (e.g. travel allegation violations, company/local policy, attendance, performance, etc.) and collaborate regularly with the legal and labor teams. The Specialist will have a direct impact on the work environment at American Airlines. The primary location for this position is Phoenix but will be open to considering candidates based out of Los Angeles.  

What you'll do

  • ​Partners with business to provide guidance to management, including conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and performance improvement counseling
  • Serves as an advocate for our employees
  • Resolves employee HR questions and issues
  • Connects employee engagement to corporate business initiatives (own the message)
  • Provides direction to employees/managers to resolve human resource issues (e.g. escalated benefits issues, transfers/demotions, departmental/management conflicts, etc.)
  • Conducts and/or supports investigations into claims of potential harassment and discrimination; escalates to senior personnel as needed
  • Partners with operational leadership in investigations into potential violations of company policies
  • Explains and interprets company and governmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for employees and management
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures
  • Investigates and drafts responses for external complaints and charges to defend the Company's position and interests

  • Conducts ongoing formal and informal HR training on matters such as sexual harrassmen and discrimination
  • Represents the HR partner team on various projects/committees
  • Supports DFW, Texas, Oklahoma and Cargo
  • Reviews, assesses, and makes recommendations for all requests for accomodations (ADA, Religious, and others) to ensure adherernce to federal, state, and local regulations
     

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • ​Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years of Human Resources experience or 5 years of supervisory experience
  • 1 years of experience handling internal complaint investigations
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with state and federal employment laws including but not limited to; FMLA, ADA, FLSA, NLRB, Title VII, etc.

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • ​Prior experience working with represented groups

 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • ​Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to have strong initiative and solid judgment abilities/skills
  • Ability to demonstrate effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent project management skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and produce results

  • Ability to travel
