About the Role

The Head of Data Governance champions the Data Governance Program and related initiatives and is responsible for overall objectives. The DG Head provides program performance related reports to both the DG Executive Board and DG Committee and builds consensus for the DG strategy across the executive community. S/he will lead the Data Governance office to achieve desired business benefits.

 

About the Responsibilities

  • Set directions within the DGO and oversees all DG roadmap implementation
  • Provide strategic direction, continuously benchmark and develop an AFG data management framework based on relevance and context of information requirements and risk exposure.
  • Build consensus for the DG strategy across the executive board
  • Establish and lead the data stewards and owner program ensuring that governance framework is implemented, metadata, masterdata and data quality requirements are defined and data quality issues proactively resolved.
  • Ensure effective internal controls by monitoring metrics and driving performance through improvement initiatives
  • Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of data management systems (including metadata, master data, data quality, information security and data modelling solutions)
  • Lead and initiate strategic data management programs creating business cases, developing high-level integrated milestone plan and executing the same. Programs include Data Quality Assessment, data management policy development and implementation, etc.
  • Establish, maintain, and influence program stakeholder relationships, expectations, and communications, both internal and external to the organization
  • Collaborate with Chief Data Owners and Data Owners through the DG
  • Committee to ensure appropriate representation and participation in DG across the business
  • Serve as an advocate and subject matter expert in data management, including guiding data management committees
  • Allocate budget and resources based on business and data priorities

 

About the Requirements 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management and/or other technical function

Minimum Experience and Knowledge:  10+ years experience working in a data management or information architecture function

Job-Specific/Technical Skills required to complete the tasks:

  • Experience in defining data governance/management strategy and roadmap in collaboration with various stakeholder groups
  • Experience in implementing policies, capabilities, technologies and processes related to information management (Data quality, metadata/masterdata management, privacy, security, etc.)
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends in master data and data quality management
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives
  • Experience in supporting the change management required for a data governance and stewardship program
