What you'll do

• Partner with a highly inspired and inquisitive team of technologists who are already developing and deploying applications to the highest standards.
• Lead the buildout of cutting - edge engineering platforms and solutions that accelerate the modernization of the American Airlines applications. Most importantly you will focus on self-service platform capacities with heavy emphasis on discoverability and automation.
• Partner with application team technical SMEs and utilize your cloud migration experience to guide the application teams to make the right technology choices and build true cloud native 12-factor applications.
• Explore emerging technologies/practices and develops prototypes and concepts/ideas with little or no guidance; incorporates these into architectural solution when appropriate.
• Work in an open, collaborative, trusting and thought-provoking environment, one that encourages diversity of thoughtful and creative solutions; one that supports experimentation with a fall forward culture.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or equivalent experience
• 8 years of application systems development experience
• 5 years of software architectural and design experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
• 5 years of technical or team leadership experience
• 5 years of Cloud architecture or development experiences in Azure, AWS or GCP
• 3+ years of experience in Agile methodology

All you'll need for success

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

• Background in Enterprise/Solutions Architecture or software engineering
• Command of application architecture, design patterns and business processes
• Knowledge of industry wide technology trends and best practices
• Strong technical leader able to drive to roll up sleeve and work collaboratively with development teams
• Hands-on experience in cloud platform and migration to/from one or more of the following (Azure, AWS or GCP)
• Has practical experience & can articulate the benefits or CaaS/PaaS and when to use
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration platforms (aka Docker & Kubernetes)
• Hands-on experience with service mesh (i.e. istio, kuma, linkerd)
• Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Phyton (preferred), Java or C++ 
• Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as Javascript, NodeJS, React
• Hands-on experience with Git, documentation as code(i.e. Markdown), Git workflows and the GitHub platform
• Expertise in one or more cloud native relational databases such as MySql, PostgreSql 
• Expertise in one or more NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and/or Cassandra
• Expertise with databases and migration to/from enterprise class databases highly desired
• Expertise in working in in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals
• Demonstrated track record of leading reference implementations and/or POCing new and upcoming technologies
