As a member of the American Airlines in-house legal team, the Director, Senior Environmental Attorney will provide legal advice to all levels of company management to comply with environmental issues facing a large, international company, including environmental regulatory compliance (soil, water, and air), environmental litigation, and government environmental enforcement matters. 
 

What you'll do

  • Function as the company’s environmental compliance specialist, including representing American in dealings with third parties; negotiating permits, consent decrees, and similar agreements; reviewing and negotiating environmental provisions of property lease agreements; ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies; anticipating and addressing environmental exposures; coordinating with outside counsel; and staying current with developments, trends, and practices
  • Provide practical, compliant, and strategic legal advice and counsel to management at all levels
  • Conduct third-party due diligence
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Develop and implement remediation plans based on internal and external audits, investigations, and reviews
  • Develop and deliver in-person, specialized training as needed
  • Develop and update environmental policies and processes
  • Perform other duties as required, which may include working on other projects and investigations supporting the company’s compliance program
     

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-approved law school, excellent academic record, and an active member in good standing in at least one State bar
  • Seven years of experience advising clients on environmental matters, with at least two years of in-house experience preferred
