The American Airlines Dangerous Goods Compliance Internship program will focus on projects and process studies for several DG processes seeking improvements to increase compliance.  This will mitigate risk and promote Safety of Flight by preventing DG violations, incidents and accidents while enhancing Company policy and Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) compliance which is the goal of the Program.

 

Support Dangerous Goods Compliance through monitoring of existing programs and procedures such as:
•    Hazmat Discrepancies (Undeclared Dangerous Goods Reporting Program in CERS)
•    Notification To Captain (NOTOC) Discrepancies (AutoNOTOC Program)
•    Training Compliance
•    Aide in identifying trends and safety concerns arising from Pilot Debriefs
•    Identify weaknesses in DG Programs and provide suggestions for improvement of training programs
•    Contribute in the data evaluation process for input into the FAA Quarterly Reports
•    Interface with FAA
•    Online verification of computer-based training assigned as corrective actions for Company and FAR violations
•    Participate in AA Safety Management System (SMS) Data Analysis Groups
•    Will have exposure to other AA Operations groups to analyze weaknesses and develop suggestions to improve procedures
•    Support and assist in AA Hazmat incident investigations
•    Learn how to work as a team member in an office environment
•    Prepare presentations for the AA Dangerous Goods Compliance team
•    Brief relevant safety trends and aggregate data at SMS meetings
•    Audit of Cargo acceptance documents for Dangerous Goods Compliance

Job Qualifications

  •          Currently pursuing a degree in Aviation Management (specifically Flight, Maintenance or Safety) or related
  •          Junior level student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  •          Candidates must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language
  •          Excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills required
  •          Must have intermediate to advanced level of MS Office suite products
