About The Job

Responsible for oversight of GSE Supervisors as well as GSE Maintenance Operations in their stations. The position will partner with Labor, People Business Partner, and operational leaders in all departments that utilize ground equipment.  Additionally, the manager will interact to solve operational matters with the aforementioned groups and identified union leaders as needed.

 

Specifically, you’ll do the following:

  • Administer and coordinate the activities in support of policies, goals and objectives established by the ground support equipment (GSE) station, Manager, Senior Manager, Director or Managing Director.
  • Assure continuing safety, compliance, dependability and reliability in their area of responsibility.
  • Assure harmonious working relationship with union workforce and understanding / application of union contractual language.
  • Assure consistent relationship is maintained between them and their subordinates and other American Airlines Management, Internal customers, Union representatives and vendors.
  • Make recommendations on training needs. Ensure employees are current on all required training.
  • Assists in ensuring departments budgetary goals are met.

  • Monitor equipment preventative maintenance completion, in-service rate and implement corrective measures to ensure department goals are met.
  • Review ground support equipment (GSE) related aircraft damage and employee injuries investigations to ensure root cause is identified and resolved, coordinating with the GSE Fleet if required.
  • Assist in establishing part allocations and inventory control to support maintenance of Company ground equipment.
  • Perform any additional duties and responsibilities as assigned in order to achieve department and company objectives and motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Support American Airlines Affirmative Action Program and ensure that decisions within assigned area of responsibility are free from consideration on the basis of sex, color, race, age, religion or national origin.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent GSE mechanical experience/training
  • 5 years of experience in area of responsibility
  • 3-5 years’ experience managing, supervising and/or directing workgroups in a union environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the ground support equipment (GSE) Maintenance operation
  • Automotive, ground support equipment (GSE) or Heavy equipment operations experience in production along with parts procurement as a manager, supervisor or lead mechanic.
  • Must be able to select, guide, and motivate employees
  • Above average written and oral communication and interpersonal skills is required
  • Capability to handle multiple projects concurrently with stringent deadlines
  • Working knowledge of PC’s and proficiency of software applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Fleet Focus.
  • Must fulfill FAA criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA) if applicable
  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications a plus
