Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Engineer I - Components resolves Component reliability issues at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role focuses on investigating reliability issues or trends and sourcing cost-effective repairs such as Designated Engineering Representative (DER)/ ODA AR approved repairs, and approval of Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) parts. Scope & Complexity Under limited supervision, this role provides recommendations and supports decisions for Aircraft Maintenance operations and programs. Additionally, they will drive process improvement to support the Alaska's operational excellence performance goals, resulting in world class service for Alaska's customers. Key Duties - Reviews Service Bulletins and Service Letters, develops and approves engineering instructions, and recommends action to be taken. - Investigates problems and proposed modifications initiated by the different departments, evaluating their merits, and providing or recommending solutions. - Assists in monthly review of material spending for components and expendables to identify and implement cost benefit initiatives. - Coordinates approval of FAA DER and ODA AR repairs for component-related repairs. - Identifies and executes PMA opportunities, working with PMA suppliers, and coordinating with respective engineering group for approval. - Completes monthly review of FAA and EASA suspect part notification including FAA Unapproved Parts Notification (UPN), FAA safety alerts for operators (SAFO), EASA Unapproved Parts, EASA Under investigation and stolen parts notifications. - Prepares and participates in daily delay and cancellation review relating to components and aircraft issues to ensure prompt follow-up. - Reviews "Save Our Spares" (SOS) component program. - Develops and revises CMM supplements and Build Specifications for components. - Participates in regular MRB/OAR meetings to provide follow-up on component findings for significant events, project tracking, and component watchlist. - Tracks and reports chronic and rogue components through coordination with vendors. - Assists in follow-up with AAR on components managed under its CPH program. - Assists in Corrective Action follow-up and Self Disclosure reporting as and when is required. - Creates and revises General Procedures Manual (GPM) in support of ongoing integration exercises. - Develops Quick Reference databases for Airbus and Boeing components-related issues and fixes (short term and long term). - Provides technical assistance as required to aide in warranty recuperation. Job-Specific Skills, Experience & Education Required - Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or a related engineering discipline or 2 years of engineering experience in lieu of degree. - Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), including informal working team and formal executive presentations in clear and concise language. - Ability to work effectively with various groups including Fleet Engineering, Technical Services, Maintenance Planning, Repair Control team, AOG team, Stores and Integration team. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Well organized and efficient in carry out duties and responsibilities. - Ability to multitask efficiently and pay close attention to detail. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. - Experience leading in a labor union environment.
