ROLE PURPOSE:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for bringing new concepts to our malls, developing new relationships and strengthening those of our existing strategic partners (including retail groups, stakeholders). The role holder will prepare business presentations, working with marketing presentations, industry/peer group comparisons, new business opportunities, and other projects as required. This function acts as an enabler to the regional leasing team by providing insights and support, which is optimal to successful business decision making.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Business Relations

  • Lead the strategic Business Relationship between Al Futtaim Real Estate and major retail group by establishing, enhancing and maintaining through frequent communication and regular meetings both locally and internationally.
  • Responsible for approaching principles of International concepts directly to create a back- channel communication for future business opportunities and for better understanding of their business
  • Arrange C-Level meetings with Major International Operators in Dubai or at the country of their origin for future business partnerships
  • Accountable for effectively communicating “the AFGRE story” and delivering a consistent AFGRE brand message.
  • Keep retail groups, relevant business partners, and industry peers updated on any changes, new developments, and new projects within the AFGRE portfolio during meetings and/or a quarterly newsletter email blast.
  • Gather feedback from retail groups on their experience working with AFGRE – from initial contact, lease negotiation & execution, store construction & grand opening.
  • Deliver above mentioned feedback to senior management; Contribute ideas & solutions to improve processes and ultimately strengthen AFGRE’s reputation as the landlord of choice.
  • Create and maintain a centralized database summarizing i) All retail groups doing business in the MENA region and their respective brands, ii) Country of operation for each brand, iii) All brands that currently have store presence within our mall portfolio, iv) Regional sales performance analysis by brand and by retail group and v) Target list of brands not currently in our portfolio.

 

Business Development

  • Responsible for coming up with “New Ideas” which are unique but would have a direct impact on footfall as well as a positive contribution to the brand image of Al Futtaim
  • Analyze consumer market research, mall traffic and catchment report to understand target consumer behavior for retail strategy development
  • Clearly and strategically define the Unique Selling Point (USP) of new and major renovation projects (Create “winning strategy”) to be ahead of the competitor.
  • Monitor and analyze customer, market and competitor business and trends for business strategic planning.
  • Plan and attend portfolio meetings with major retail groups to gain insight into retail group activity – new brands to market, brands exiting the market or changing ownership, group expansion strategy and new store plans.
  • Research, identify and propose high potential brands and new brands to market in order to maximize productivity of mall merchandise mix.

 

Internal Communications

  • Gather internal/external market intelligence and deliver on-going updates to Leasing team – industry/market trends, brand/group activity (emerging brands, mergers, bankruptcies, new brands to market, brands exiting etc.), new retail development activity in the market.
  • Responsible for presenting relevant industry findings and trends at annual group conference and monthly/quarterly meetings to leasing as well as the Director of Malls
  • Accountable for keeping key industry data to be used by Director of Malls when needed for VIP presentations.

 

Marketing & Events

  • Responsible for finding out about “Key” Industry events Worldwide and receiving invites for Director of Malls can attend as a presenter, speaker, or panelist to share his knowledge about the industry while representing Al Futtaim Malls.
  • Research and plan in mall activities with sponsorship opportunities, which will have direct impact on footfall and create new revenue streams
  • Create detailed and clear briefs for any marketing collaterals needed by Leasing – i.e. sales brochures, property presentations, informational packet for prospective tenants, etc. – and ensure timely execution by Marketing team.
  • Partner with Marketing in planning, coordinating and executing “product launch” events to create excitement around group activities amongst internal/external stakeholders and industry peers.
  • Attend any industry-related exhibitions, conferences, and events and represent AFGRE; Network with industry peers; Manage budget and assist with planning, coordinating, and executing company booth if AFGRE is showcasing during such events
  • Drive the B2B social media updates on an ongoing basis.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Real Estate, Marketing, Economics or related fields.

 

Minimum Experience and Knowledge:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in Business Development, Marketing or related fields.

Experience in Shopping Mall, Property Development and Retail is a plus.
