About The Job

American Airlines is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer, as part of the Regional IT team, to be assigned to its wholly-owned Piedmont Airlines subsidiary. The position will be based at Piedmont’s HQ and Ops Center offices in Salisbury, MD. The successful candidate should be highly skilled and exceptional Infrastructure Engineer who would lead diverse IT infrastructure efforts interfacing with multiple vendors, delivery teams, business units, managed service providers, and IT representatives. In addition, the Infrastructure Engineer will participate on the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of server and network hardware and software. This will include support and implementation of the physical and virtual infrastructure. This individual will also analyze, monitor, and resolve network and server hardware and software problems.

Specifically, you’ll do the following:

  • Provide good understanding of concepts related to server load balancing, WAS clustering, and other application scaling concepts
  • Troubleshoot and resolve middleware issues across development, testing, and production environments 
  • Proactively monitor local and remote data center operations and equipment, including UPSs, HVAC, power, facility security systems and all datacenter processes and procedures
  • Encourage an environment of sharing and team work among the team.
  • Stay current with systems technology best practices and changing technologies, in order to maintain domain expertise and recommend enhancements or changes
  • Support communication and response process by responding to users on system issues, maintenance, and system status, and advising and escalating on any prolonged or major issues
  • Manage and maintain Windows Active Directory, including DNS and Group Policies
  • Provide guidance to lower level technicians and assist when and where necessary
  • Perform problem diagnostics to determine the root cause of an issues
  • Determine opportunities to refine the configuration of a component, and determines new resource and capacity requirements
  • Travel, as required
  • Work a mandatory rotational schedule for on-call off-hours support

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years of experience as a network or infrastructure engineer or administrator
  • Advanced ability to plan strategically for current and future business environments, including future technology and business design changes to create flexible, scalable solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of IT business operations, systems requirements, and processes
  • Knowledge and experience with the various security components, such as WebSphere security, LDAP, SSL certificates, and other third party security products (McAfee, Trend Micro)
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
    • VMware environments – vSphere, VCSA, vROPS, LogInsight & vRA 
    • Hyper-V environments (2008, 2012 and 2016) & Live Migration
    • Unix and Windows environments 
    • Installing and managing Windows Server (2008, 2012, and 2016), Microsoft SQL, Microsoft IIS and Microsoft Active Directory
    • TCP/IP networks and full understanding of all layers of the OSI model
    • Cisco/Dell/Sonicwall networking solutions including routers, firewalls, VPN tunnels, switches, gateways, access devices, wireless access points, etc.
    • TCP/IP, DNS, FTP/SFTP, SMTP, SMB, DHCP, Cisco, LAN, WAN, and WLAN
    • Dynatrace, VMware Log Insight and VMware vROPS 
    • Hands-on experience with writing PowerShell scripts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 5+ years of experience as a network or infrastructure engineer or administrator
  • 2+ years of managing vital and critical infrastructure and applications in a 24/7 environment
  • Experience with SaaS & PaaS Cloud technologies and deployments, primarily Microsoft Azure Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups; strong presentation and technical documentation skills
  • Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as independently
