Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Manager Flight Ops Regulatory Compliance & Certificate Management monitors the Federal Register for changes to Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) or Operations Specifications and informs and ensures each discipline has implemented changes as appropriate. Scope & Complexity - This leadership role directs flight operations regulatory compliance and certificate management activities for Alaska Airlines (AS). This role represents Alaska Airlines at FAA Headquarters for guidance material used by industry to implement regulations. Key Duties - Monitors the Federal Register for changes to Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) or Operations Specifications and informs and ensures each discipline has implemented changes as appropriate. - Provides management personnel with interpretations, guidance, and industry best practices to maintain the highest level of compliance. - Coaches Flight Operations directors and managers to develop processes and procedures to eliminate or control non-compliance to acceptable levels. - Facilitates SRMs (safety risk management) within the division when requested. - Prepares applications for exemptions or deviations. - Ensures Flight Operations policies, standards, and manuals (both General Operating Manual (GOM) & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) conform to FAA requirements. - Provides the FAA with requested data to support any query or investigation, as well as occurrences as defined by FAA Order 8020.11, Aircraft Accident and Incident Notification as well as NOTICE 8900.48, Pilot Deviations. - Compiles compliance data and documentation to apply for or amend Operation Specification. - Maintains the Document Control database for all FAA correspondence, including letters of request for approval, answers to requests for information (RFIs), SAI/EPI, VSDs and LOIs. - Manages the content and revision schedule of the Flight Operations Administration Manual. - Chairs FAA coordination meetings. - Administers Alaska Airlines' Cockpit Access Security System program and Flight Standards Flight Deck Access Restriction program. - Performs other duties as assigned. Job-Specific Skills & Education Required - A minimum of 5 years of experience in an aeronautical enterprise or equivalent. - Dispatcher or Pilot Certificate. - Demonstrated application of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Chapter I, as well as 49 CFR and Operations Specifications. - Demonstrated insight on the FAA regulatory process, including the relationship of: The Preamble to the Federal Aviation Regulations, Operation Specifications, Notices, Orders, InFo, SAFOs and Handbooks. - Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) Advisory Circulars. - Excellent interpersonal, communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), and presentation skills. - Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). - High school diploma or equivalent. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - 2 years of experience as a flight instructor or ground instructor. - 1 year of experience with compliance-based safety. - 1 year of experience with the development or implementation of Safety Management Systems (SMS). - Formal training in system safety, human factors, or root cause analysis. - Investigation skills, to include identifying root cause and associated causal factors. - Applied understanding of risk management, threat and error management, and human factors. - Experience in the application of safety management systems functions. - A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in aviation management, professional pilot, safety science, or a related discipline.
