Overview

Network Planning is currently hiring Interns to gain experience in the Planning and Scheduling areas within the world’s largest airline.  American Airlines is headquartered in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with 9 hubs throughout the United States and operates on average 6,700 flights per day to 55 countries.

 

Role & Responsibilities

Successful candidates will have a passion for problem solving, creative thinking, and continuous improvement. Collegiality and working collaboratively are also critical requirements.

  • Gain knowledge of the airline industry, American Airlines, and competitive issues related to Network Planning
  • Learn department tools, sources of scheduling and planning data and schedule development process
  • Provide data and analytical support for teams throughout each stage of schedule development
  • Develop optimal schedules for the American and American Eagle network
  • Assist in finding opportunities to improve timings, increase utilization, or optimize markets for aircraft size through creative scheduling and problem solving
  • Present ad-hoc project with the goal of solving complex network problems and providing innovative solutions for the business
Qualifications
  • To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full time student (minimum 12 credit hours)
  • Major/Minor in an Aviation, Aeronautical, Finance, Business, Economics, Operational Research, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or related degree program
  • Minimum Sophomore level
  • Must be able to work full-time during regular business hours
  • Must be able to work for 12 weeks during the spring semester
  • Participation in Academic Associations and extracurricular activities is preferred
  • Microsoft Office skills required
  • Strong aptitude for complex problem and puzzle solving
  • Flexibility in adapting to new ideas/approaches and business processes
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups and quickly develop relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels within the organization as well as external contacts
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
