(USA-WA-Seattle) Manager, Software Engineering - Flight Operations

Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary As the leader of the Flight Operations Ops360 Engineering team within the IT division, this person will be responsible for the next generation of technology that helps put our planes in the air safely and on-time. This role also helps define, manage, and execute on roadmaps for product delivery as well as quality/efficiency in for these next generation tools. Partnering with Flight Operations groups and other software delivery teams, this role will lead a team of software engineers in designing and building a new suite of fleet management tools. Using the latest technologies and based in Azure, these tools will not only manage the fleet, they will also incorporate Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to make daily fleet operations smarter. Besides leading a software engineering team, this role manages relationships with technology partners and service providers, provides oversight of fleet cloud solutions, promotes cross-departmental collaboration, and leads in consistently driving improvements to processes and system performance, with a focus on operational stability. Scope & Complexity This role is responsible for executing on the strategy of designing and building the next generation of technology and tools used for the fleet management of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As a people leader, the Manager of Software Engineering leads and establishes priorities for the Flight Operations Ops360 Engineering team. Key Duties - Inspires and leads high performing teams of engineers to regularly deliver scalable and reliable technology solutions for the Flight Operations groups - Defines performance objectives and expectations to ensure teams are customer-focused, productive, effective and working towards established priorities - Executes on the delivery of technical architectures that consider cost, reliability, security, scale, maintainability, and usability - Designs, manages, and leverages appropriate metrics, monitors, and alarms to constantly improve security, operational processes, and software performance - Provides input in the strategy for ways to measure product quality and use-performance, feature use, delivery, reliability, alerting, etc. - Collaborate with all stakeholders to continually optimize product delivery processes - Influences across the company and communicates with stakeholders to remove roadblocks, as well as explain and escalate risks - Responsible for the quality of team deliverables by applying industry best-practices such as test-driven development, code reviews, coding standards, and test automation - Competently represents IT priority in the selection, evaluation, and partnerships with external vendors designing, implementing, and supporting products - Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management. Job-Specific Skills, Experience and Education Required - 5 years of experience with software engineering, including best practices, automated test suites, testing techniques, and software development testing methodologies - 2 years of leadership experience - A Bachelor's degree with a focus in engineering, computer science, math, physics, or a related discipline, or 2 additional years of training or experience in lieu of a degree. - Experience leveraging new technologies to improve process, reduce support, and/or lower costs - Experience in evaluation, selection, implementation, and support of vendor software and/or service providers - Strong verbal, written, and customer service communication skills, including ability to clearly communicate information technology concepts to executive level management in non-technical terms - Knowledge of high availability architectures and disaster recovery solutions Preferred - Experience in cloud software delivery (private, public and hybrid) - Experience in leading the construction, maintenance, and tuning of Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) for software via automated build, test, and release tools - Knowledge of quality engineering principles and metrics along with the ability to effectively apply those principles and show measured improvement - Knowledge of Office 365 offerings an integration option - Technical and/or process improvement certification - Airline industry experience, especially working with operational and reservation systems Job-Specific Leadership Expectations Embody our values to own safety, do the right thing, be kind-hearted, deliver performance, and be remarkable. **EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY** Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines are equal opportunity employers.
