This position drives systemic safety improvements through collaborative partnership with the labor safety representatives and the FAA.  This partnership and collaboration has a direct impact on the safety culture for all team members.  Safety issues are reported to the ASAP program from all levels within the organization.  These reports provide critical information directly from the team members who are most aware of the safety risk and often have ideas on how to mitigate the risk. The ASAP program focuses on enhancing team member behaviors and processes. 
    The ASAP manager is responsible for maintaining the ASAP program which involves a three-party team (union, FAA, and management) that works together to continuously improve our safety culture. This position reports to the Corporate Safety Director. In addition, this safety leader position provides exposure to all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, as well as establishing relationships with the labor leaders, and the regulatory agency (FAA) from the inspector level to the leaders.  

What you'll do

  • Facilitates the Event Review Committee (ERC) with the union and Federal Aviation Administration ASAP representatives to evaluate reported safety concerns and events to effectively develop correct actions to improve safety 
  • Shares and communicates safety data, lessons learned and the benefits that the program is providing to enhance AA’s safety 
  • Presents key elements of the programs progress to all levels of leadership
  • Ensures coordination with other AA departments on all pertinent issues on behalf of the ERC
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships within and outside of the ASAP ERC
  • Acts as primary ERC voting member for the Company

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • ​Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience/training
  • 5 years experience in aviation maintenance
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Airframe and Powerplant Certification
  • Knowledge of maintenance programs and CFR part 121
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (CFR 121), Just Culture, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and AA Ops Safety Policies and Procedures

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Skilled in the use of MS Office (with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint), SABRE, CERS, and WBAT or similar complex database system
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including collaboration, problem solving, diplomacy, etiquette and team building
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage
