Job Title:                            Technical Manager – Lighting, SFX and DMX Systems (Mall Entertainment)

Reports to:                        Manager - Technical Operations (Mall Entertainment)

Department:                     Entertainment (Mall Management)

JOB PURPOSE

Imagine is the Entertainment brand of Al Futtaim Group Real Estate incorporating all elements of entertainment provision and delivery throughout the groups real estate including the award winning multimedia Imagine shows.

Entertainment assets cover a broad spectrum of theatrical and entertainment equipment including mechanical /electrical, audio, lighting and lasers, AV, staging, fountain and water assets and all associated infrastructure.

The role will involve responsibility for Fountains, Lighting, SFX and DMX Systems.  Leading the show operation and programming for these disciplines. Overseeing and carrying out frontline planned and corrective maintenance and supervising sub-contractors. Carrying our programming of Fountains Lighting, SFX and DMX systems and being the “in house “expert.

The department is proactive and aims to be as self-sufficient as possible in undertaking special events, development projects and modifying and improving assets. This role therefore involves providing support in developing prototype and project based equipment, turnkey solutions for special events and supervising the building of in house equipment and equipment modifications as part of this strategy particularly regarding the Fountains, Lighting, SFX and DMX Systems.

Note although the operations and programming of Fountains which are linked with lighting and SFX are the responsibility of this role. R&M of pumps and water features will be the responsibility of the Supervisor Water. 

The role will also act as a Duty Technical Manager and deputise for the Technical Operations Manager.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Specialist Disciplines

  • Be the team specialist for these key disciplines
  • Will operate with GrandMA console
  • Good knowledge of Rigging
  • Be responsible for programming for the Lighting, fountains and SFX systems including new multimedia shows, special and live events
  • Lead the Repair and Maintenance Technician Team with regards to their specialist responsibilities
  • Educate, train, Coach and develop the Repair and Maintenance Technician Team in their specialist disciplines

Operations

  • Lead show operations for Fountains, Lighting, SFX and DMX Systems
  • Act as Duty Technical Manager taking responsibility for a Duty Shift
  • Ensure daily show readiness checks
  • Supervise maintenance as required
  • Oversee Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks for their specific disciplines and ensure they are completed on time and to standard
  • Supervise sub –contracted vendors to ensure works are completed to standard and schedule

Programming and Events

  • Be responsible for programming of Fountain, Lighting, SFX and DMX Systems
  • Work with the production team on programming new events, shows and improvements
  • Consult and advise on best practise and utilisation of fountains, lighting, SFX and DMX systems 
  • Recommend, manage and oversee Lighting, SFX and hire equipment for events

Projects:

  • Assist in developing prototype and project based equipment
  • Support development of turnkey solutions for special events
  • Supervise building of in-house turnkey equipment and equipment modifications

Safety:

  • Ensure Safety compliance in all works, checks and records in line with industry standards and good practice, full observance of all site specific health and safety requirements and procedures

Administrative:

  • Ensure Maintenance of all Technical documentation and checklists
  • Monitor all checklists
  • Create technical documentation with historical data

 

JOB CONTEXT

The role is required to contribute to the provision of a quality entertainment experience in a professional and efficient manner which will reflect the company’s reputation in the shopping centre industry.  Serve as a member of the Operations and Maintenance supervisory team for Imagine.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor level degree or Trade School Diploma in a designated discipline  
  • Fluent in written and spoken English 
  • Good Computer skills –CAD, Inventory Control Systems, MS Excel and Word computer skills - MS Office

 

Minimum Experience:

  • 7 years’ extensive R&M experience in an entertainment or similar fast paced environment
  • 2 years’ experience of show programming 
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience

 

Job-Specific Skills:

  • Able to work at height (up to 15 metres)
