Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Director, Maintenance & Engineering Planning develops and executes line and heavy maintenance planning and aircraft routing strategic objectives. This role leads the M&E division as transformation change agent. Scope & Complexity This role directs strategic maintenance and engineering planning projects and activities for Alaska Airlines. Key Duties - Develops and executes line and heavy maintenance planning and aircraft routing strategic objectives. - Identifies opportunities to enhance productivity and cost savings through ongoing evaluation of the maintenance program and tasks re-packaging. - Directs the heavy maintenance visit plan in consideration of budget guidelines, aircraft allocation, or other parameters. - Develops forecast modeling to produce accurate and efficient heavy maintenance span times and heavy check yield targets and analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs). - Evaluates proposed flight schedules, defines line and heavy maintenance parameters, and modifies processes in response to changes in the business climate. - Assess risk for proposed changes to the flight schedule, fleet assignment modeling (FAM), or aircraft rotation. - Leverages and develops technology tools to enhance information delivery, communication flow, and maintenance program compliance. - Integrates work build-plan between line and heavy maintenance through effective scheduling of aircraft availability, span time, materials, and labor hours. - Develops process and procedures to mitigate or eliminate adverse customer impact of aircraft performance deferrals. - Directs special maintenance planning and aircraft routing projects, including coordinating aircraft lease return obligations, NRFO, FCF, flight charter approval process, and aircraft equipment substitutions. - Manages the production and completion of engineering projects or special aircraft modifications. - Partners with division stakeholders, defines risk, ensures priorities and timelines are met or re-classed in response to changes in the operation, business, or regulatory environment. - Monitors emerging maintenance planning and aircraft operation industry trends and analyzes current practices to recommend revision, adoption, modification, or abandonment. - Facilitate process, problem-solving, team building, organizational, and cultural change. - Applies rigorous process improvement and project management techniques to advance M&E efforts. - Directs and implements facilities and IT long-range planning objectives and solutions. - Represents (M&E) as a member of the schedule committee in the flight schedule build process. - Serves as an advisory member of the Alaska Airlines maintenance review board. - Promotes a high performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback. - Identifies and provides career development opportunities through developmental assignments and formal/informal training. Job-Specific Skills & Education Required - A minimum of 6 years of airline operational and maintenance planning experience. - A minimum 5 years of engineering leadership experience. - A minimum 3 years of project management experience. - Knowledge of FAA regulations and oversight functions. - Systems linking experience. - TRAX, VISOP/VISMAINT, AMES experience. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). - Excellent communication skills: verbal (both informal working teams and formal executive presentations), and in clear/concise written documents. - Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company with others in the organization and key external business partners. - High school diploma or equivalent is required. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree.
