Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Senior Paralegal provides legal and administrative support to the Litigation Team within the Legal Division, consisting of Commercial Litigation, Regulatory Compliance, Labor & Employment and Corporate Affairs disciplines. The Senior Paralegal may be asked to focus on one or more practice areas and may be called upon to assist on matters across the division for Alaska Air Group, Inc (AAG, Alaska Airlines, Inc. (Alaska) and Horizon Air Industries, Inc (Horizon). Key Duties - Provides legal and administrative support within the Legal Division?s Commercial Litigation, Regulatory Compliance, Labor & Employment or Corporate Affairs areas. - Assists attorneys in the management of complex legal matters from start to finish, including labor and employment and commercial litigation (e.g., class actions and complex commercial and regulatory disputes). Assists attorneys with propounding and responding to discovery and motions, draft and issue document preservation notices, conduct complex document searches and fact research, assist in large-scale and time sensitive document productions, and serve as focal point for all e-discovery related activities. - Investigates administrative agency charges, conduct interviews and draft responses/position statements with minimal attorney oversight. - Reviews and responds to subpoenas, civil investigation demands and other requests for information from government agencies or third parties. - Supports attorneys with aircraft acquisition and financing matters. Responsible for maintaining files, preparing closing documents and submitting international aircraft registry filings and UCC filings. - Supports attorneys with intellectual property (IP) matters. Responsible for coordinating with the business on correct IP use, preparing cease & desist letters and coordinating materials to support company patent applications. - Assists outside counsel, hiring managers and foreign national applicants/employees with immigration matters. Assists with border and consular issues. Maintains Public Access Files. - Investigates and researches complex legal matters through leveraging an in-depth knowledge of electronic research technology, internal company systems and complete familiarity with divisions within the companies. - Responsible for coordinating with clients on state alcoholic beverage service, transport and storage regulations and assisting with liquor license applications and renewals. - Maintains familiarity and is able to communicate the requirements of company?s contracts management and records management programs. - Drafts correspondence related to minor commercial disputes. - Serves on the emergency response team to oversee records gathering and retention activities. - Performs other duties as assigned, including coordinating with and providing coverage for other paralegals and legal coordinators. Job-Specific Skills Required - A minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate environment. - Bachelors degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree. - A paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited program. In lieu of paralegal experience and certificate, inactive attorneys will also be considered. - Ability to locate, interpret, and explain basic contract terms, with proficiency in legal research platforms. - Resourceful and capable of working across multiple practice areas, working independently, prioritizing work, and demonstrates strong discernment skills in using discretion when working with confidential information. - Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external audiences with all levels of the organization, particularly senior leadership. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), as well as FileMaker Pro. - High school diploma or equivalent. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - General knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and state statutes governing discovery. - Experience working in labor and employment law, commercial litigation or supporting compliance functions. - Strong knowledge in electronic discovery rules, procedures and systems.
