We’re looking for an Technology leader with a proven track record in leading transformation of legacy infrastructure to a cloud model.  This leader will have an engineering first mindset and believe in providing a delightful self-service developer experience; inspire and grow an engineering competency within the Infrastructure organization.   They will be strategic in assessing industry technology trends, driving rapid incubation and adoption at American, while also being operationally focused in managing the service availability of American’s enterprise infrastructure footprint.

What you'll do

  • Lead an organization responsible for the design, build, and operations of platforms and tools that enable consistent infrastructure delivery across multiple cloud environments.  Automated governance (e.g. tagging, policy, automated guardrails) will be built into these platforms
  • Provide standardized compute, storage, and load balancing offerings across Windows and Linux technology stacks. These offerings will be built API-first and provided as end-to-end offerings
  • Build and run an Integration platform that enables teams to effectively manage their events, APIs, and other modern integration patterns for their applications
  • Establish a cloud business office that allows us to measure, track, and govern cloud spend and migration planning across American IT.
  • Manage the health, availability, and life cycle of infrastructure across American.  For legacy infrastructure this will include directly performing life cycle activities.  For modern cloud based infrastructure, provide a solution that enables product teams to own life cycle activities through automated CI/CD pipelines as they mature their delivery practices
  • Manage American IT data centers and drive data center consolidation to simplify and drive cost efficiencies
  • Drive an open source strategy for infrastructure at American, looking for every opportunity to replace legacy commercial solutions with open source options, as well as increase contributions to the open source community.
  • Consolidate platform measurement capabilities to enable a “single pane of glass” operational metrics view for application teams to consume, enrich, and take action on improving traveler experiences
  • Drive InnerSource efforts to amplify contributions across American IT domains, including infrastructure and application codebases
  • Establish and sponsor infrastructure engineering community guilds for American IT engineers
  • Support, endorse, and contribute to American’s Architecture Principles and Engineering Tenets

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or related field
  • 10 years of experience with infrastructure technologies and software development
  • 7 years of technology leadership experience, including development, infrastructure, and architecture teams
  • 5 years of experience in leveraging Agile, DevOps, and Cloud practices to manage technology delivery

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging technology trends in infrastructure
  • Proven experience in growing engineering practices such as Infrastructure as code, containerization, source control management, CI/CD, and Infrastructure test automation
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external resources, as well as manage relationships with 3rd party providers and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to solve, and to lead others in solving, complex analytical problems
  • Willingness to take calculated risks
