This role is part of a dynamic and collaborative team that helps shape the company's actions, along with its engagement and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. The specialist reports to the Managing Director of Corporate Communications and works closely with senior leaders in Global Engagement, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and other business units.

The right person for this job must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-profile environment with tight deadlines, including real-time issues management. This individual must be able to develop inclusive messaging and tailor communications to diverse internal and external audiences in the ways that matter most to our team members, customers, media and the general public.

What you'll do

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of business needs – creating and executing compelling communications strategies and advancing the company’s objectives around its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy.    
  • Drafts content for an array of audiences and platforms, aimed at communicating our values and actions to team members, the communities we serve and other stakeholders.
  • Assists the Managing Director of Corporate Communications in developing and executing short- and long-term communications plans in a dynamic environment.
  • Manages national, local and trade media inquiries, as well as key stakeholder engagement
  • Supports rapid response communications related to area of focus, including unpredictable and fast-moving issues with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, 24/7 environment to help lead American's effort.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Required minimum of 8 to 10 years relevant work experience in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion communications in a corporate, governmental or agency setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or relevant field, or equivalent experience / training.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and experience in strategic communications planning and execution.
