The Senior Manager, IT Applications, is the leader of the Employee Technology SAP Payroll and HR applications teams at American Airlines. This position will be responsible for delivering SAP and Azure platform solutions on time, with high quality, and that meet customer expectations. This leader will foster an environment conducive to innovation, process maturity, continuous learning, and career development. This team helps American ‘go for great’ by innovatively supporting philosophy, process and tools as needed to support the HR and Payroll lines of business. This position reports to the Director, Employee Technology, and is responsible for analysis , custom development, maintenance and support of applications and systems in support of Employee Technology, both commercial and homegrown.

What you'll do
- Manage a team of analysts, programmers and engineers responsible for developing custom solutions using tools like SAP HCM, ABAP, SAP PI , MS Azure, React, and .Net framework technologies.
- Collaborates with application teams to guide the architecture, custom development, CI/CD, testing automation, process orchestration, change management and production support areas for the various applications within Employee Technology
- Consistently demonstrates a positive, professional, leadership attitude and frame of mind when working with and communicating with others
- Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.
- Collaborate with Business and IT leadership to determine and communicate systems vision, direction, and work priorities, and drives progress towards technology target roadmaps
- Remove roadblocks, cultivates relationships, and effectively communicates across Enterprise at various levels of leadership
- Manage and track project/program schedules and budgets with controller(s), as appropriate
- Manage and leads adoption and migration of new and emerging technologies
- Develop and mentors a team of highly skilled technologists (project managers, solution architects, technical analysts, and developers)
- Delegate responsibilities effectively across multiple development swim lanes
- Lead, influence, and enforce technology standards
- Maintain an effective approach on problem solving, multi-tasking, coordinating and scheduling in accordance with stated goals to ensure visibility and predictability
- Manage production issues and off-hours support, communication, and coordination
- Maintains organization's effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
- 10 years of experience designing, developing and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments
- 7 years of experience overseeing large technology projects from inception to implementation in an enterprise environment
- 5 years of experience delivering solutions using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

Airline industry experience, including business processes and supporting technology
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Experience in Scoping, Planning, Requirements Gathering and Documentation, Design, Development and Testing, and RFP process is required.
- Strong leadership skills and proven ability to communicate and collaborate with different audiences at various levels.
- Ability to effectively lead staff under potentially high stress and challenging situations.
- Ability to Delegate responsibilities effectively.
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
- Experience in managing ‘mission-critical’ projects/migrations.
- Hands-on Knowledge and Experience in technology environment (Software development, Database development, Operating systems design, hardware implementation).
- Experience with airline business processes and supporting technology a plus.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) including presentation skills (MS Visio, MS PowerPoint) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment.
- Experience and thorough understanding of overall systems development life cycle practices and procedures using various methodologies (agile, lean, waterfall)
- Strong technical experience with expertise in object oriented programming, common data structures and algorithms, and of design patterns and best practices
- Experience with SAP HCM payroll platform, architecture and design
- Balanced delivery track record where IT hygiene (EOSL, patching, DR compliance, Technical Debt) is a focus
- Experience working with Agile project management methodologies and tools
- Experience in DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
- Experience providing requirements, review, approvals for contracts, and statements of work to vendor partners, internal vendor management groups, and legal
- Experience managing financial budgets
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects/work streams and demands efficiently
