PYP Coordinator | Universal American School | Dubai

 

JOB GOALS

Responsible for the development and whole-school implementation of the program. Ensure whole-school commitment to collaborative planning and that the standards for implementation are understood and aligned with the scaffolded AERO Priority Standards from PreK-Grade 5. Ensure the program is planned, taught and assessed collaboratively. Actively support the school’s mission of being the leading American International school in the region by embracing the school’s vision and values through embodying the 7 domains of the Universal definition of learning (see UAS Teacher Profile) .

Responsible for the communication with the relevant IB office.

 

REPORTS TO: Elementary Principal

 

QUALIFICATION/SKILLS

Bachelor’s degree (BA or B.Ed. in teaching or PGCE-Postgraduate certificate in education) in education

  • Minimum four years of PYP teaching experience
  • Completed required PYP teacher workshop certification/s
  • Proven track-record in effective, student centric instructional strategies that motivates learners of all kind
  • Proven track record in coaching and mentoring teachers
  • Ability to effectively analyze and apply data to inform instructional practices and differentiate learning
  • Effective communicator with ability to provide formative and constructive feedback for enhanced learning
  • Highly developed internationally-minded, positive interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • The ability to be flexible, patient, adapt to new situations and innovate learning environments
  • A positive attitude to students, teachers and parents
  • Proactively support the mission, vision and values of the school

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct collaborative planning meetings with grade level teams
  • Determine appropriate PYP curriculum dates and events for the school calendar
  • Ensure that copies of IB/PYP publications are available to all faculty and that they are fully conversant with PYP standards and practices
  • Ensure that essential agreements and IB/PYP assessments are recorded and reported for all areas of learning
  • Ensure that international-mindedness permeates the implementation of the PYP in the school
  • Lead the development and documentation of the school's Program of Inquiry and grade level units of inquiry
  • Lead the development and review of the school's PYP scope and sequence with the Elementary Principal/Assistant
  • Principal who oversee all curriculum
  • Maintain a record of completed planners and curriculum using the online planning tool
  • Meet with grade level teams on a regular basis to discuss summative assessments, planners, activities, use of student questions, student reflections, formative assessments, promoting critical thinking, etc.
  • Participate in the development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP), educational strategy and PYP Action Plan
  • Support teachers and students in preparing for the PYP Exhibition

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Ensure that staff are made aware of IB professional development opportunities
  • Lead/co-lead PYP workshops/PD during the orientation wee
  • PYP Coordinator 2021
  • Identify IB professional development needs and opportunities on and off campus
  • Coordinate and keep a record of IB workshop attendance and school visits
  • Lead the orientation of new teachers into the PYP and ensure they follow PYP guidelines set out in the IB Standards and Practices document

 

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  • Assist the Elementary Principal and Assistant Principal in identifying resource needs
  • Ensure an inventory of resources to facilitate effective delivery of units of inquiry including field trips
  • Ensure that all PYP teachers are aware of the IBO Programme Resource Center

 

COMMUNICATION

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among all staff members
  • Conduct PYP parent information sessions
  • Publish articles pertaining to the program in school publications and websites
  • Circulate all relevant information received from the IB
  • Prepare and submit documentation required for authorization and evaluation
  • Ensure that all requirements of the IB concerning the program are met
  • Act as the liaison between the school and the IB
  • Provide outreach to the wider PYP community through various forums, the regional IB association and establish/maintain links with other PYP schools in the region

  • Demonstrates a willingness to be a team player, and to participate readily in any other duties, as assigned.
