The Director, IT Vendor Management will lead the team responsible for American’s relationship with technology product vendors throughout the entire lifecycle, including sourcing, procurement, negotiations, contracts, relationship and performance management, as well as licensing oversight, in order to maximize value and mitigate risk for the company. 

What you'll do

  • Define and manage cross-supplier performance management and cross-supplier governance structure. Manage vendor activity to identify and recommend methods to support cost savings, cost avoidance, improved efficiency or more strategic sourcing.
  • Conduct supplier spend/consumption analytics in partnership with Finance to provide sourcing optimization recommendations, including contract consolidation/restructure, as needed.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret the IT services marketplace to understand supplier/market characteristics and identify sourcing trends/opportunities.
  • Conduct supplier due diligence including scorecards, annual reviews, reporting metrics, establish dashboards, and financial analysis.
  • Responsible for vendor related conflict resolution, escalation and resolution procedures.
  • Provide input to support compliance audits regarding adherence to contractual agreements and partner with Software Asset Management & Desktop Support teams to develop ongoing entitlement controls.
  • Create and maintain Supplier Management Process and Procedures operating manual to drive continuous improvements in all areas of vendor management.
  • Work with Legal and Sourcing/Procurement across supplier lifecycle.
  • Lead overall performance of our contract operations and improve governance.
  • Build strong partnerships and engagement with existing and new strategic partners.
  • Lead strategy to enable us to deliver high quality, efficiency, and world class support for our internal stakeholders and business units.
  • Set agenda, own vendor performance and KPI reviews.
  • Drive ongoing continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality and cost.

All you'll need for success

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field
  • 7 years of experience with vendor relations, negotiations, contract management, project management, and process improvement
  • 7 years of leadership experience, with examples in how people have been successfully developed within the team as well as examples in handling underperforming team members

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Strong negotiation skills, with experience crafting strategic partnerships using a win/win structure; capable of restructuring major partnerships when significant conditions warrant
  • Action oriented, results-driven leader with a natural aptitude for engaging employees
  • Proven experience leading broad organizational change and transformation
  • Demonstrated ability to solve, and to lead others in solving, complex analytical problems
  • Strong understanding of IT systems and solutions
  • Ability to build and facilitate relationships at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
  • Ability to be flexible in rapidly changing conditions and priorities, and to redirect managers and teams toward new ideas and approaches in work methods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate a strategic vision; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Believes that diversity in the team is a strategic strength, and has demonstrated techniques that have promoted diversity, equity and inclusion
