American Airlines pilots go through 24,000+ training events every year. Flight Training Planning & Scheduling is responsible for planning, scheduling and tracking all of these training activities. This group is also responsible for ensuring optimal utilization of our training resources including check airman, instructor pilots, simulators, etc.  This intern will be responsible for analyzing pilot training data, optimizing resource planning models and building predictive models.

What you'll do

  • Partner with planning and scheduling teams to improve utilization of resource planning optimization model
  • Develop and test recommendations to drive efficiencies in resource utilization
  • Develop predictive models on large-scale datasets using tools such as linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees and other machine learning, or data mining techniques
  • Develop data visualizations and dashboards using Tableau
  • Develop actionable business insights using SQL

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Operations research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or other related experience/classwork
  • Aptitude for logical analysis, problem identification, and problem solving
  • Proficiency in SQL and a programming language such as Python, Scala or Java
  • Working knowledge of Resource Planning or Optimization Modeling 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical solutions to management
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
  • High performance orientation, ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility
