  • This position is within our Operations Strategic Planning & Performance department and focused on two key Corporate Strategic Objectives for our business: double down on operational excellence and passionately drive efficiencies.
  • The team leads a variety of aspects of Operational Strategy and Reporting efforts at American Airlines. It serves as a resource for analytical needs throughout the Operational division, partnering with Sr leaders, front line leaders, Operational business units to get to root cause analysis as quickly and effectively as possible.
     

What you'll do

  • Mine, model, analyze and evaluate operational data to identify root cause factors impacting operational reliability and on-time performance
  • Derive meaningful and actionable insights from data that to help improve the operation
  • Develop statistical predictive models on large-scale datasets using statistical modeling such as linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees and other machine learning, or data mining techniques
  • Build optimization and combinatorics models for optimal resource allocations
  • Perform advanced business analysis using SQL to develop prescriptive operational improvement plans
  • Build data visualization tools for root cause analysis
  • Automate and improve current programs, processes, reports and forecasts within the Operations Performance and Analytics organization
  • Develop presentations and present findings with recommendations to key stakeholders and senior management across the company
  • Work collaboratively with various teams across the company to develop innovative and insightful solutions to improve operational performance
     

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied Statistics, Data Mining, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics or related quantitative field
  • 1 year of experience with SQL querying and/or reporting or equivalent coursework

 

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline including Operation Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or Business Analytics

 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • SQL proficiency
  • Knowledge/basic experience of data processing/manipulation languages such R and Python in large database environments
  • Highly proficient in use of Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with data visualization in Tableau, Power BI, Excel, Python, or others \
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with an aptitude for problem solving
  • Ability to work effectively, meet deadlines, and shift priorities appropriately in a fast paced, dynamic work environment with great attention to detail
