About the Role:

 

Responsible for ensuring continuous laboratory compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies standards (e.g. DHA,  EHSMS & ISO15189), monitoring quality initiatives, developing policies and procedures pertaining to regulatory requirements and lab processes, and making recommendations to management to help the department operate at an optimal level of performance and maintain a high level of continuous improvement for all laboratory services.

 

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    1.  
  1. Ensuring  that  processes  needed  for  the  quality  management  system are  established, implemented, and maintained.
  2. Reporting to laboratory management, at the level at which decisions are made on laboratory policy, objectives, and resources, on the performance of the quality management system and any need for improvement.
  3. Ensuring  the  promotion  of  awareness  of  users‘  needs  and  requirements  throughout  the  laboratory organization.
  4. communicating with laboratory personnel for the importance of meeting, the needs and requirements of users as well as regulatory and accreditation requirements
  5. Seek information relating to user perception as to whether the service has met the needs and requirements of users. The methods for obtaining and using this information include cooperation with users or their representatives in monitoring the laboratory’s performance, provided that the laboratory ensures congeniality to other users. Records kept of information collected and actions taken.( Key performance Indicator KPI, staff suggestions, doctors and patient satisfaction )
  6. ensure  that  responsibilities,  authorities  and  interrelationships  are  defined, documented  and  communicated  within  the  laboratory  organization.  This  shall  include  the  appointment of  person(s)  responsible  for  each  laboratory  function  and  appointment  of  deputies  for  key  managerial  and technical personnel.
  7. Works in collaboration with the Medical Directors, Laboratory Director, Management Team, and staff to develop and maintain a Quality Management Program. Develops and maintains expertise in clinical laboratory regulatory and accreditation requirements.      
  8. Determines that existing policies and procedures are in compliance with DHA, EHSMS, ISO 15189, & other accrediting or regulatory agency requirements. Utilizes technical expertise, analytical skills and critical thinking to provide oversight of regulatory changes; Ensures policies & procedures are monitored & updated accordingly
  9. Plans, coordinates, and conducts audits in the various clinical laboratory sections, analyses collected data and reports trends & outcomes from audit findings
  10. Identifies process improvement opportunities in the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory processes through the use of tracers, audits, and data analysis in order to achieve high-quality patient care    
  11. Reviews laboratory safety and patient care events and ensures appropriate follow-up actions have been taken.   
  12. Responsible for quality systems document management 
  13. Responsible for Quality Indicator data collection integrity and preparing reports regarding Quality Improvement data for various quality committees or initiatives.   
  14. Synchronizes the Quality Management Program with the ASH quality goals and objectives
  15. Proficient in performing all testing in the laboratory and in production
  16. Knowledgeable in overall calibration process by evaluating the required testing to maintain/improve calibrations
  17. Ensures calibrations are accurate by analysing results
  18. Evaluates equipment by performing reference control check samples.
  19. Presents and explains statistical analysis of process
  20. Conducts process audit and work on special projects when assigned
  21. With developed computer skill enabling the use and manipulation of applicable computer systems 
  22. Assist administrative & technical personnel to develop, organize, & evaluate quality management program goals and objectives
  23. Identifies and investigates with defined parameters: documents and reports, all adverse occurrences, and potential problems to Laboratory Director or designee and as may be required with university administrative offices
  24. Provides working supervision to group of administrative and/or technical positions
  25. Submits data trends and outcome assessments; develops new measures as appropriate
  26. Organizes data gathering and facilities data review; prepares data reports
  27. Coordinates staff education programs and training seminars as necessary
  28. Performs other duties as assigned. 
  29. While at work, (and while on work premises) an employee shall:

  • Make proper use of all safety devices and PPE provided and ensure they are maintained in proper working order.
  • Attend applicable EHS training that is required in the Training Need Analysis.
  • Actively participate in consultation and communication of EHS matters.
  • Report of all EHS incidents and work-related injuries.
  • Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything e.g. safety signage, protective barriers etc. provided at the workplace in the interest of health, safety, welfare or protection or management of the environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:  

 

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent
  • Have at least 2 years working at accredited laboratory.
  • Have at least 5 years working at international accredited facility.
  • ISO 15189/ CAP internal Auditor certificate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret regulations and standards.
  • Ability to analyse data.
  • Computer skills, project management skills and facilitation skills.

 

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar role.
