About The Job

Network Planning is currently hiring Analysts for several teams throughout the organization including Global Planning, Scheduling, Schedule Analysis and Hub Planning, and Fleet and Network Analytics.

 

Global Planning team members manage the network outlook and capacity decisions for each hub and market, consistent with strategic goals that team members help to define and present to leadership. Analysts develop market-by-market plans to maximize profitability, forecast new routes and conduct ad-hoc analyses to drive long-term value for the network. Global Planners have a passion for strategic thinking, problem solving and continuous improvement. Planners are outstanding at discerning trends and deriving meaning from large volumes of data using advanced Excel skills, Tableau, SQL and other tools.

 

Schedulers take frequency inputs from Global Planning and ensure that all operational requirements are met. The analysts drive network value by finding opportunities to improve timings, increasing utilization and/or optimizing markets for aircraft size through creative scheduling and problem solving. Schedulers also serve as front-line contact points for all management and operational groups who schedules, including stations/hubs. Successful schedulers have knowledge of American’s worldwide network, a passion for the commercial aviation industry, and a strong aptitude for puzzle solving.

 

The Schedule Analysis and Hub Planning team is primarily involved with: helping design and maintain analytical tools to model our long-term capacity plans (6+ years); working collaboratively with Corporate Real Estate and Airport Affairs to ensure our infrastructure projects are aligned with AA’s long-term strategic goals; developing, analyzing and maintaining schedule standards, in partnership with OPP and Scheduling, to ensure that the standards are competitive and to balance the company’s strategic and operational goals.

 

The Fleet and Network Analytics team’s primary responsibility is coordinating fleet decisions within Network Planning and across internal operating and planning groups.  The team also covers the quarterly network review as well as ad-hoc strategic projects that impact the overall direction of the network.  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of collaboration with both internal and external groups, developing innovative solutions to complex network and fleet issues and a passion for driving results.     

 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
•    Drives network capacity decisions through the use of data and develops efficient and operable schedules
•    Solves complex network problems by developing innovative solutions for the business
•    Drives consensus on capacity decisions working collaboratively with his/her peers
•    Conduct financial forecasting, airline profitability analysis, fleet and strategic planning
•    Prepare in-depth cause and effect analysis on various complex financial issues, and develop competitive industry analyses and key financial performance metrics
•    Presents results and makes recommendations to rest of Network Planning and to Sr. Management, regarding future capacity decisions and market adjustments

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a business or aviation-related field from an accredited four-year university with an approaching graduation date
  • Thorough understanding of the airline business, commercial goals and how to translate these into strategic network and fleet plans
  • Proven financial and analytical skills, including ability to logically structure analysis of complex issues and develop creative solutions
  • Flexibility in adapting to new ideas/approaches and business processes
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups and quickly develop relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels within the organization as well as external contacts
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
  • Advanced Excel skills required
