What you'll do
  • Manages virtualization infrastructure implementations based on designs from infrastructure architects
  • Installs, configures, and administers:
    • vSphere 6.x clustered environments.
    • vRealize 6.x/7.x components including vRealize Automation, vRealize Orchestrator, vRealize Log Inisght, vRealize Operations Manager, and vRealize Business
    • HPE c7000 blade enclosure and HPE ProLiant BL-series hardware
    • HPE ProLiant DL-series rack-mount hardware
    • HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged systems
    • Dell EMC VxRail systems
  • Originates and updates VM runbook documents for customer requested VM deployments and VM modifications in our datacenters managed by third-party managed service provider
  • Deploys and updates VM configurations within the company’s self-managed datacenters, based on requests received from our customer community
  • Troubleshoots and supports RHEL 6.x/7.x and Windows 2008/2012/2016 Guest OS for deployed VMs
  • Ensures timely delivery of assigned project deliverables related to vSphere platform /component upgrades, new vSphere/vRealize component deployments, and periodic ESXi cluster capacity additions.
  • Participates in on-call support rotations with ability to efficiently lead a collaborative troubleshooting session involving 3rd party support teams and vendors during an outage/ triage situation within our vSphere environment
  • Collaborates with project managers, other engineers, architects, administrators, and customers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Develops documentation for requirements, architectural designs, engineering drawings and diagrams, as well as operational policies and procedures
  • Develops and documents best practices for system installation, deployment, and operation
  • Manages technology proof of concept selection criteria, evaluation, and testing
  • Explores and stays abreast of new technologies that can bring value to the organization
  • Encourages an environment of sharing and team work among the project teams
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years of experience as a systems or infrastructure engineer, specifically VMWare

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 5+ years of experience as a systems or infrastructure engineer, specifically VMWare

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience in:
    • Production vSphere 6.0 support within an enterprise-class environment, supporting multiple datacenters with a minimum of 3,000 total virtual machines
    • VMware vSphere platform upgrades between major/minor releases:
    • 5.1 upgraded to 6.0
    • 6.0 upgraded to 6.5/6.7
    • Supporting large-scale deployments of HPE c7000/Synergy blade enclosure and HPE ProLiant DL-series rack-mount architectures
    • Supporting vSphere ESXi cluster environments leveraging EMC SAN Storage with EMC PowerPath multi-pathing software
    • OS support for large-scale VM deployments leveraging RHEL 6.x (or higher) and Windows 2012 R2 (or higher) operating systems
    • Installation, configuration, and administration of vRealize Log Insight 4.x clustered environments for vSphere event management/collection
    • Installation, configuration, and administration of vRealize Operations Manager 6.x for performance monitoring and capacity management of vSphere environment
    • Origination and maintenance of comprehensive vSphere component build documentation as well as VM runbook documentation for deployed customer VMs
    • Working within a Service Management toolset for submitting / tracking of incident, problem, service, and change requests
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with 3rd party teams within our datacenters which are managed by external vendors or peer operations support teams
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge
  • Ability to thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment and leverage best practices
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and implement solutions and/or workarounds
  • Experience in DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
  • Proficiency in  Agile project management methodology, specifically within the infrastructure area
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)
