  • The Operations Analysis and Reporting team is one of 3 teams within the Operations Planning & Performance (OPP) group
  • The team leads a variety of aspects of Operational Analysis and Reporting efforts at American Airlines. It serves as a central resource for analytical needs throughout the Operational division, partnering with Sr leaders, front line leaders, Operational business units to get to root cause analysis as quickly and effectively as possible.
  • The Analyst/Sr. Analyst position will proactively analyze and report all aspects of operational performance, covering a wide variety of both strategic and operational topics. Additionally, the analyst will be heavily involved in deep dives/root cause analysis between Stations (Hubs and Regions), Functional Owners (Crew, Maintenance, IOC, etc.) and the regional organization to understand and troubleshoot operational challenges and deliver performance improvement.  The team helps delineate the execution versus the structural drivers of operational performance.
What you'll do
  • Mine, model, analyze and evaluate operational data to identify root cause factors impacting operational reliability
  • Build Business Intelligence reports to guide leadership to improve the operation
  • Proactively monitor and track operational performance and delay/cancel/misconnect information
  • Respond to ad-hoc data/analysis requests from various departments
  • Provide competitive gap analysis to identify key performance drivers and opportunities to close the gap to our competition
  • Provide periodic updates on drivers of operational issues and progress made with associated initiatives, to the operating departments and Sr. leaders
  • Assist in hypothesis development for root cause analysis related to reliability performance
  • Work collaboratively with various cross-functional teams including hubs, regions and functional group (maintenance, customer experience, cargo, etc.) leadership to develop and implement initiatives that improve operational performance
  • Develop presentations and present findings with recommendations to the operating groups and senior management
  • Interact with other departments including Network Planning, Maintenance, Crew, and IOC
  • Up to 10% travel

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operation Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, Business Administration (quantitative focus), or Business Analytics with prior work experience
  • Motivated individual with strong passion for airline operations
  • Ability to structure an analysis from scratch with minimum guidance
  • Demonstrated experience in taking complex analysis and turning them into actionable insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels within the organization as well as external contacts
  • Familiarity with data processing/manipulation languages such as SAS or SQL in large database environments
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau and/or Power BI 
  • Demonstrated experience working under tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in Operation Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, Business Administration (quantitative focus) or Business Analytics with prior work experience
  • 1 year experience using data analysis and quantitative modeling techniques to answer business questions and to assess the added value of recommendations
  • Familiarity with the airline operations metrics and related operational procedures/processes
