Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The in-house legal team works in a shared services environment. Employed by Alaska Airlines, the attorneys provide legal services for Alaska Airlines (AS), Horizon Air (QX), and Alaska Air Group (AAG). The individual in this role will be part of the labor and employment team within the Legal Department responsible for handling advice and counseling, labor arbitrations, litigation, and other tasks involving legal risk management for AAG, AS, and QX. Key Duties - Provides labor and employment law advice to labor relations, human resources, and operational division personnel at AAG, AS, and QX. - Conducts legal research and analysis and investigates matters bearing on labor and employment law matters. - Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts, letter agreements, and settlement agreements. - Responds to demand letters and agency charges and manages and handles arbitrations and litigation, with or without assistance from outside counsel. - Negotiates or participates in negotiating labor contracts upon request from Labor Relations. - Collaborates with other in-house lawyers to establish common expectations with law firms and realize economies. - Keep Legal division colleagues and other stakeholders abreast of legal developments and exposure. - Manages outside legal counsel, including reviewing legal costs. - Travels for client matters and to industry-related legal conferences. Job-Specific Skills & Education Required - Juris Doctor degree from leading school, with strong personal academic credentials. - Licensed attorney in good standing, preferably licensed in California or Washington State. - A minimum of 10 years experience as a practicing attorney with expertise in labor and employment law advice and counseling or labor and employment litigation in a law firm, company, or government setting. - Must be resourceful, able to drive projects and initiatives to conclusion, and be comfortable providing legal advice in ambiguous situations. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). - Excellent planning and organizational skills. - Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in fast-paced environment where flexibility is key. - Strong interpersonal skills. - High school diploma or equivalent. - Minimum age of 18. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - Excellent planning and organizational skills. - Resourceful and able to drive projects and initiatives to conclusion while involving the necessary stakeholders and balancing multiple objectives and points of view. - Comfortable with direct, frequent interaction with corporate clients and providing legal advice in ambiguous situations. - Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in fast-paced environment where flexibility is key. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Knowledge of traditional labor law and/or employee benefits. - Knowledge of and experience with applying rules of privilege in a corporate setting. - Experience conducting or overseeing workplace investigations. - Trial experience or experience handling labor arbitrations. - Knowledge of preemption principles, either related to labor and employment law or the airline industry.
