• ​This job is a member of the Integrated Operations team within the Integrated Operations Division.
• Responsible for representing Operations in the company-wide collaborative effort to build American's global schedule including Mainline and Regional flights. Operations Planning serves as a central point of coordination amongst operational groups to enable conversations around our ability to successfully operate upcoming schedules and plan ahead for future operational challenges. This job is also responsible for building and maintaining tools for schedule evaluation and for recommending schedule improvements to contribute to a better operational performance.

What you'll do

• Mines, models, analyzes and evaluates operational data to identify root cause factors impacting network reliability
• Provides alternatives and/or recommendations for corrective action
• Quantifies the anticipated gains to be achieved by the recommendation
• Presents findings and delivers recommendations to the operating groups and senior management
• Monitors and tracks operational performance and delayed information
• Provides periodic reports to the operating departments focusing on trends and anomalies
• Seeks out action plans and recommends corrective action to improve operational performance
• Designs and implements data mining and machine learning algorithms to analyze trends on very large volume of data
• Plans and maintains the accuracy and integrity of operational performance parameters such as block times and operational standards for operational robustness, and monitors trends and compliance
• Identifies and resolves high priority operations performance issues related to ATC, chronically late flights, station performance, crew parameters, maintenance reliability and scheduling parameters pertaining to spares, block, turn, sequencing, and other operational standards
• Responds to ad hoc data/analysis requests from various departments
• Provides support as an analytical resource
• Performs other duties as required

 

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• 1 year of relevant work experience AND a Bachelors OR Master's degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field
• Experience with data retrieval languages such as Access/SQL or SAS 
• Experience with 1 or more programming languages (e.g. C++, Java or Visual Basic)
• Willing to ocaoccasionally work extended hours outside of the regularly scheduled shift (typically Monday-Friday)

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Master’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field
• 2 years experience in using data analysis and quantitative modeling techniques (e.g. statistical, optimization, simulation, spreadsheet) to answer business questions and to assess the added value of recommendations
• Knowledge of reporting and data visualization tools and techniques (e.g. TABLEAU, COGNOS)

• High energy, results driven leader who possesses strong oral and written communication skills, along with a collaborative mindset and the ability to be persuasive and influence others
• Skilled in data analysis/modeling in Excel to answer business questions and assess operational impacts
• Ability to effectively understand and analyze detailed information
• Strong business acumen; technical learning/innovation management; possess a drive for results
• Ability to perform both independently and as a team member, handle multiple assignments, complete projects on time, perform under pressure and respond to changing priorities
• Ability to complete assigned projects accurately and within defined deadlines
• Adaptable, comfortable with unstructured work and occasional shifting priorities
