Every day, we go beyond what's expected and reach for the remarkable, together. **YOUR ROLE** Role Summary The Director of Financial Reporting sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial reporting and corporate accounting operations and strategy at Alaska Air Group (AAG). This role manages the relationship with AAG's external auditors, leads SOX risk identification and management, and assists with investor relations. Scope & Complexity As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders in financial reporting and corporate accounting for AAG and its subsidiaries. Key Duties - Establish strategic goals and direction for team of accounting leaders in internal and external financial reporting and accounting and manage AAG's SOX program, partnering closely with internal audit. - Set long-term strategy for financial reporting and drive action to improve existing accounting controls and business processes in a pragmatic, cost-beneficial way. - Oversee the preparation and distribution of periodic internal financial statements, statements for the AAG subsidiary employee benefits plans, and ad-hoc reporting. - Manage the quarterly close process, including financial statement review and analysis, account reconciliation review, among other tasks. - Manage and oversee the preparation of SEC filings, including 10Qs, 10Ks, and 8Ks and assist the controller in responding to SEC communications or comment letters. - Oversee the technical review and implementation of any new or proposed accounting standards. - Manage the overall relationship with AAG's external auditors, oversee the preparation of audit schedules, and ensures AAG meets their needs and resolves conflicts and questions. - Lead SOX risk identification and overall program, working with Internal Audit and others as necessary, and leads the quarterly SOC 302 and 906-certification process. - Partner with leaders in accounting to ensure appropriate internal controls exist in the accounting process and related information technology applications and processes, and that proper documentation exists for financial accounting processes and financial reporting processes. - Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines. - Shape culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors. - Participate as a member of the Financial Working Group of the Corporate Sustainability Committee and act as the reporting liaison between third-party reporting organizations and corporate stakeholders. - Assist with Investor Relations; advises and backs-up the Investor Relations Director as needed. Job-Specific Skills, Experience, & Education Required - 8 years of experience in either Big 4 or combined experience in Big 4 and in a corporate accounting department with increasing responsibility and leadership. - 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people. - SEC reporting experience. - Bachelor's degree with a focus in accounting or a related field. - A current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. - In-depth knowledge of GAAP, SEC Regulations (including Reg. FD), financial accounting controls, and experience researching complex accounting transactions. - In-depth knowledge of the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley act Sections 302 and 404. - Financial analysis skills with the ability to perform variance analyses to understand the business results and to identify potential errors, the ability to budget and to develop sophisticated financial models. - Detail oriented with a passion for "getting it right" and producing high-quality reporting effectively under pressure. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners. - Exceptional Excel and Word capabilities and familiarity with large-company general ledger applications. - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred - 5 years of Big 4 work experience. - Familiarity with Blackline Systems software. - Familiarity with PeopleSoft. - Familiarity with Workiva software. - Airline industry experience.
