The Managing Director of Airports, Dining, Cabin, and Corporate Purchasing will provide leadership, vision, and direction for the strategic sourcing of goods and services necessary to support Airport Operations and Cargo, Onboard Dining and Service, Flight Operations, Marketing, and Corporate Real Estate.

What you'll do
  • Leads a team of 40+ to provide procurement, sourcing, and supply chain support to Airport Operations and Cargo, Onboard Dining and Service, Flight Operations, Marketing, and Corporate Real Estate, including executing effective sourcing strategies, achieving best value supplier selection, and delivering on sourcing objectives including supplier quality, delivery, working capital improvements, and productivity.
  • Works closely with suppliers to reduce spend and improve American’s working capital, while maintaining operational reliability, as well as working collaboratively with our suppliers, internal customers, and finance to mitigate large inventory levels driven by network reductions in response to Covid-19.
  • Provides advice, functional expertise, and leadership to support business planning, strategic sourcing, contracting, transactional purchasing, supplier management, and internal procurement support activities. Promotes inter-departmental collaboration and fosters effective relationships with key external vendors.
  • Ensures all of American Airlines’ vendor partnerships bring value to the company and that purchasing strategies are aligned with corporate objectives. Develops supply chain and vendor strategies to mitigate operational risks, monitor vendor performance and adherence to operational SLAs, and ensure supply chain meets demand needs.
  • Leverages the implementation of modern technology, Coupa, to institute best practices, benchmarks and scorecards, and drive a culture of performance excellence, continuous improvement and cost-savings within Corporate Procurement and across other procurement groups including Tech Ops, IT Vendor Management, and HR Vendor Management.
  • Leads a cross-functional committee of all MDs at American with sourcing/contracting responsibilities to coordinate company purchasing policies and procedures
  • Leads Supplier Diversity program on behalf of all procurement departments, including Board participation with the DFW Minority Supplier Development Council and Women’s Business Council Southwest.
  • Upholds high standards of conduct to prevent conflicts of interest or improper supplier and customer relationships
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest standards of personal ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 7+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, strategy, or finance
  • 10 years of experience in leadership roles

Preferred  Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Advanced Degree or accredited supply chain professional certification preferred
  • Strong background in negotiation, contract management, project management, vendor relations, process improvement, and airline management
  • Strong understanding of airline operations; preference towards experience with airport operations and catering, with ability to rapidly come up to speed in less familiar areas of the airline
  • Experience implementing and working with Coupa software preferred
