What you'll do
  • Work with the Senior Manager of Global Communications in developing and executing external communications strategies to achieve our business goals.
  • Lead rapid response and crisis communications in the Western U.S. Region, including creating and developing holistic mitigation plans for multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and foster strong media relations with transportation, aviation, consumer travel and other regional media and stakeholders throughout the Western U.S., as well as diverse media outlets at the national level. 
  • Draft and review content for an array of audiences and platforms.
  • Work in a fast paced, 24/7 environment to help lead American's communications efforts.
  • Be part of a dynamic and collaborative team, located in DFW and around the globe, and work closely with senior leaders in Global Engagement and other business units.
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the Communications Field
  • Minimum 3 years public relations experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Knowledge of the media landscape in American’s key markets throughout the Western U.S. (Los Angeles, CA, Phoenix, AZ, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, etc.)
  • Previous public relations experience in the aviation and/or transportation industries
  • Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred

  • Thrives in a fast-paced atmosphere where you work under pressure and can meet critical deadlines
  • Strong team player with ability to work successfully at all levels of the organization
  • Must have excellent time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines effectively, efficiently and independently
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills and experience in strategic communications planning
  • Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing landscapes and to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Strong organization and analytical skills, solution and detail-oriented
  • Strong ability to collaborate multiple stakeholders dealing with competing priorities
  • Capable of anticipating needs and driving clarity on expectations
