Sales Operations:  Sales Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and developing industry leading technology, analytics, servicing solutions and sales force effectiveness to maximize Global Sales partnership value in coordination with Sales Strategy, field sales teams, travel agencies, corporations, distribution technology intermediaries, industry bodies and other channels.

Customer Performance and Sales Analytics is a dedicated team in Global Sales Operations that is committed to providing industry leading data solutions through the design and development of timely, insightful and accurate internal reports and external portals.  We deliver data-driven, actionable insights in a fast-paced environment in support of our Global Sales Team, our Travel Agency and Corporate Partners, and Partner carriers.  We believe that data is exciting, and when brought to life through engaging reporting and tools, becomes a major contributor to the success of Global Sales.

The role will work closely with internal stakeholders (Revenue Management, Revenue Analysis, IT, etc.), externally with industry trade groups (ARC, IATA), and technology providers (Microsoft, PRISM, Anaplan, etc.) to champion innovation and technology ensuring American leads the industry in offering competitive products and services to Global Sales’ customers and is easy to do business with.  A critical component of successful collaboration involves the ability to understand business needs and design custom solutions.  The ideal candidate will also effectively communicate complex technical solutions to various business as well as IT units in an easy-to-understand format, train a broad range of constituents to navigate solutions, and manage ongoing support of database integrity

 

What you'll do

• Communicates directly with business units to understand their business problems
• Develops creative proof-of-concept solutions that can be easily articulated to the IT organization for production
• Utilize SQL,  and R to create tables, stored procedures, and process data to be utilized by Sales applications and reports
• Develop in R to manage versioning of data and to query terms from a database 
• Utilize R markdown to create PDF documents 
• Maintains reliability of solutions by developing and implementing standards and/or process for database maintenance, documentation and configuration
• Creates and maintains documentation related to the company’s software solution and database environment
• Utilizes various programming languages to provide analyst tools to perform statistical research and analysis
• Develops forecasting models and new predictive analytics to enable strategy teams to identify trends
• Performs ad-hoc analysis and other program administration as required
• Refresh and maintain legacy reports currently developed in Excel
   

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar degree; or equivalent experience/training
• A working knowledge of object oriented programming languages such as C# and Java as well as scripting languages such as VBA, R
• 3 years in similar role and a motivated self-starter

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• MIS or MBA/MS with focus on business technology
• 5 years development experience in an airline function

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

• Microsoft Certification or Microsoft Programming Certificate
• Technical skills including Excel/VBA, R, Microsoft SQL, Anaplan, and/or web application development
• Ability to communicate directly with users
