About The Job
This job is a member of the Information Technology Team, within the Information Technology Division. With millions of members and hundreds of partners, AAdvantage, the loyalty program of American Airlines, plays a strategic role in the airline’s success. From a technology perspective, the systems related to AAdvantage run the gamut from a core Ventana Siebel Loyalty platform, to ancillary customer contact systems, complex batch jobs, integrations with almost every customer technology touchpoint as well as backend data applications such as Cognos. This position is looking for a Cognos and Big Data developer who will take requirements from the business unit, develop needed reports as well interface with architect and infrastructure leads.
Specifically, you’ll do the following:
- Interacts with business unit users for requirement gathering and development process
- Uses Cognos Framework Manager to build models, packages and publish packages
- Uses Cognos Report Studio to develop standard and complex reports
- Uses Cognos Transformer to create cubes based on business requirements and create the related drill-through reports
- Must be flexible to occasionally work after normal business hours for supporting the application

- Collaborates with leaders, business analysts, project managers, IT architects, technical leads and other developers, along with internal customers, to understand requirements and develop needs according to business requirements
- Maintains and enhances existing enterprise services, applications, and platforms using domain driven design and test-driven development
- Troubleshoots and debug complex issues; identify and implement solutions
- Creates detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates
- Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance
- Supports the development of coding standards and adhere to best practices and security guidelines
- Works closely with software architects and technical leads to ensure decisions meet long-term enterprise growth needs

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
- 1 year of hands-on Cognos BI experience
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the Cognos suite of tools and Studios, including, but not limited to:
- Framework Manager – must know how to create relational models using best practices; DMR experience required
- Report Studio – this includes creating new reports, maintaining existing reports and troubleshooting performance and design-related issues
- Transformer – create new models and cubes using a variety of data sources available in Cognos 10
- Familiarity with Windows operating system as a power user
- Strong SQL skills for development of custom SQL and reporting views
- Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong presentation and mentoring skills are required to offer effective demonstrations and lead end-users through classroom instruction
- Strong willingness to learn and adapt to changing technologies
- Knowledge on Big Data technologies: Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Flume, Hbase, Map/Reduce, Spark
- Experience with Data analytics

- Sound knowledge of Relational Databases (RDBMS), SQL & No-SQL databases
- Scripting: Unix, SQL and Shell Scripting, Apache Spark and Spark SQL
- Knowledge of Containers and Cloud technologies is a plus
- Knowledge of Apache Kafka, Spark ML is a plus
- Experience with agile/scrum methodologies to iterate quickly on product changes, developing user stories and working through backlog
- Build/deployment tools: Github Enterprise and DevOps Toolchain technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or other related advanced degree given preference
- Experience with airline Loyalty data
- Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups
- Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as independently
